Future of X
The National Alumni Association is holding three Future of X events this spring. These events bring alumni and friends an up-close-and-personal look at the many exciting ways in which Xavier is growing and changing. The first is Wednesday, April 22, at the Sears Tower in Chicago. Other events are in the works for Cleveland and Washington, D.C. For more information, contact Tom Brady at 513-745-4256 or bradyt@xavier.edu.
Baroque at Bellarmine
Xavier's select vocal Schola Cantorum, Harmonia Sacra, along with a professional ensemble of area liturgical musicians and a professional chamber orchestra, present the first ever American performance of a composition by Venetian composer Baldassare Galuppi on Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. The presentation is part of the regular evening prayer service in Bellarmine Chapel. The service also includes Bach's motet "Komm, Jesu, Komm" and Brahms' "Schaffe in mir, Gott."

Puppet master classes
Xavier University, in collaboration with Madcap Puppet Theatre, is offering two master classes. The first, on Saturday, March 14, is "Puppets and their use in Alternative Settings." The second, on Saturday Match 21, is "Puppets, Masks and Performing Objects for the Stage." Sessions run from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. each day. Cost is $35 per session. Bobinski ready for madness
As March Madness nears, no one on campus is closer to the action than associate vice president and athletic director Mike Bobinski. In the first year of his five-year term on the 10-person NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee, Bobinski is set to play a key role in selecting the field of 64 teams that will make up this year's tournament. Along with choosing the tournament teams, the committee also selects the sites and the officials for the tournament. Finally, committee members have the task of attending tournament games for the duration of the tournament, from the regional games through the Final Four.
Alternative breaks
This week is spring break on campus, and while many students headed home, others dedicated the week to serving others via the Peace and Justice Programs' Alternative Breaks. This year, about 270 students are participating in the program, which includes 20 spring break trips—at such varied locales as Ukraine and Biloxi, Miss.—and three summer trips. A new spring trip is in progress—a week in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine area to work on women's issues. Each of the spring groups talk about their experiences on Monday, March 16, from 1:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m., on the first floor of the Gallagher Student Center.
School of Nursing
On Friday, Feb. 27, the University's Board of Trustees approved the expansion of the Department of Nursing to the School of Nursing, reflecting the increased reach and stature of the highly popular program. "The School of Nursing carefully combines a rigorous preparation for a nursing career with a sensitivity to the Jesuit mission of Xavier University and its emphasis on cura personalis (care for the whole person)," says President Michael J. Graham, S.J. "To advance the mission of the School of Nursing is a way of advancing the larger mission of the University itself." Nursing becomes the second "school" within the University, joining the School of Education, which expanded from the Department of Education last year.
