New residence hall approved; bonds available for purchase
On Dec. 11, the University Board of Trustees approved the construction of a new residence hall complex to house approximately 525 students in suite-style living. A new dining facility with a seating capacity of up to 800—and a "green" roof with recreation space—is included in the plans and replaces the Hoff Marketplace dining hall in the Cintas Center. The new complex totals 240,000 square feet and will be ready for occupation in the fall of 2011. The project is undertaken in response to increased student demand and is designed primarily for sophomore housing.

To fund the project, the University is issuing approximately $48 million in tax exempt bonds through the State of Ohio Higher Educational Facility Commission on Thursday, Jan. 14. Alumni interested in purchasing bonds for the project can get details here.
Interfaith medical trip kicks off 2010
A group of Xavier pre-professional health students began the new year with an interfaith medical mission trip to Jamaica. From Jan. 2-9, 13 students visited Jamaica with a doctor and nurse from TriHealth Cincinnati and Rabbi Abie Ingber, the founding director of Xavier’s Office of Interfaith Community Engagement. The students shadowed medical professionals in a health center located in the mountain community of Steer Town. They also met theologians of different faith traditions common in and native to Jamaica. View a photo gallery of their trip.
Madcap series continues
The Hats Off series of performances by the Madcap Puppet Theatre continues Jan. 16 and 17 with a production of Toby and the Ice Goblin in the Gallagher Student Center Theater. For tickets, call 513-745-3576. Showtimes and additional information can be found at www.madcappuppets.com.
Xavier/FDA partner for outsourcing conference
The FDA and Xavier are partnering to create a unique opportunity for the pharmaceutical industry through the first annual Global Outsourcing Conference, June 13-16 at the Cintas Center. Working together, leaders at every level of the industry can engage in open, direct dialogue on the topics of vital concern for the future of our industry. GOC 2010 focuses on four key discussions: global compliance, the “business” of quality, supply chain control and contract relationships.
Dorothy Day House commemorative weekend
Peace and Justice Programs invites alums and students to commemorate the Dorothy Day House on Jan. 22-23. The Dorothy Day House and several others on campus will be razed in February in preparation for a new residence hall. For more information, contact Molly Robertshaw.
XLC organizational leadership presentation
During Alumni Weekend, Len Brzozowski, executive director of Xavier Leadership Center, presented networking events on Personal and Organizational Leadership. He asked attendees to identify how much of their own talents they use in their daily work, and then challenged them to identify ways they could contribute more effectively, no matter where they were in the organizational structure.
