Student-produced video honors former president
Crosstown Shootout game-viewing parties planned
The Crosstown Shootout against the University of Cincinnati is Thursday, Jan. 6, and the National Alumni Association is coordinating game-viewing parties for Xavier alums across the country. And, it is also holding Crosstown Shootout contests and giveaways hourly before the game on the Xavier Facebook page, and then posting Shootout party photos on the site afterward.

Xavier named Best Value by Kiplinger's Personal Finance
Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine once again lists Xavier as one of the nation's "100 Best Values" among private colleges and universities. Xavier is ranked No. 77 overall.

Williams creates new sustainability business course
How much of a role should businesses take in social and environmental efforts? The answer is quickly becoming "more," and the Williams College of Business is taking the lead in teaching that idea. With funding from the Procter & Gamble Fund's Higher Education Program, the College created an MBA course on corporate citizenship and sustainability.
Alumni Association giving away tickets to Wake game
The National Alumni Association and Xavier's Annual Fund are giving away two free front-row tickets to the Xavier-Wake Forest men's basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 18. The giveaway is part of a larger engagement effort that features profiles of people at Xavier who have made an impact, including former men's basketball coach Skip Prosser. James Bremer, parent of a current student, earlier won two tickets to the Butler basketball game.
Students host A Xavier Christmas for local school children
Each December, the student club "A Xavier Christmas" invites more than 200 elementary school children from neighboring communities to campus to meet Santa Claus and help light the Xavier Christmas tree. The annual event, which was featured in Xavier magazine last year, took place Dec. 6.
Alumni can get aboard Thomas the Train show early
Alumni have the opportunity to purchase pre-sale tickets for "Thomas and Friends Live on Stage," which is being staged at the Cintas Center on Thursday, April 7, at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The 90-minute children's musical is based on the popular preschool cartoon Thomas the Tank Engine. Tickets can be purchased online beginning Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 10:00 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, Dec. 10.
Student wins British Airways entrepreneurship contest
Christopher Head, a senior business major, is jetting off to New York, London and Shanghai this spring to visit venture capital firms and try to raise money for Head's Up! Inflatables, a company he started to help fund his education. He won the trips as part of a "Face of Opportunity Contest" by British Airways.
Wall Street Journal profiles Sr. Rose Ann Fleming
Mark Yost, author of "Varsity Green: A Behind the Scenes Look at Culture and Corruption in College Athletics," wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal about Sr. Rose Ann Fleming, Xavier's academic advisor for student-athletes. He describes Fleming as a "feisty 5- foot-4-inch, 78-year-old nun who makes sure that the basketball players at Xavier University, a Jesuit Catholic college in Cincinnati, spend as much time in class as they do in the gym."
NEXUS Community Garden wins two awards
The NEXUS Community Garden, which began this summer as a joint effort between Xavier and the neighboring communities of Evanston and Norwood, earned two awards from Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, which includes grants totaling $750.
Men's soccer, cross country compile best seasons
The men's soccer team had one of its best seasons ever, winning the Atlantic 10 Championship and earning it's first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Its 10 wins doubled the total from the two previous seasons. The men's cross country team wrapped up its best-ever season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional race.
