Sweet and Elite basketball seasons rank among the best
Despite the high standards set by teams in the past, both the men's basketball team's trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and the women's basketball team to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament proved to be among the best seasons in the history of Xavier basketball. Both seasons came to heartbreaking closings—the men in a double-overtime thriller to Kansas State that immediately ranked among the best March Madness games ever, and the women on a last-fraction-of-a-second shot against Stanford—but left Musketeer fans with great memories. Relive all of the games with box scores, photo galleries, media links and game recaps on the Xavier postseason web site.

Xavier unveils national survey on the American Dream
What is the American Dream? It's different things to different people, but according to the inaugural survey by Xavier's Institute for Politics and the American Dream, it's...well, mostly in trouble. The "American Dream" is quickly becoming out of reach, according to the survey, which was written about in Time, the Washington Post and the Atlantic monthly among other news outlets. It is being conducted annually to measure the changes in America's confidence and outlook.
Alumna Karen Wells distinguishes herself on and off court
Where do you go after starring for Xavier's women's basketball team? For 1989 alumna Karen Wells, it was up the corporate ladder. Wells is now vice president of strategy and menu for McDonald's USA, and she returned to campus in March to speak on "Inclusion and diversity in business: a journey of lessons learned" as part of the Williams College of Business' Distinguished Speaker Series. A few days after speaking at Xavier, Wells was profiled in the Chicago Tribune.
Students spend spring break serving others, making news
Last year more than 240 students and 18 faculty spent their spring breaks on one of 23 trips—but not to the beach. They were part of Alternative Breaks, which uses spring and Christmas breaks to travel around the world and perform service projects. This year their efforts captured the attention of a variety of media. “They came. They saw. They mucked,” is how one blog described the experience. The Albany Times Union wrote about one trip, while the students earned a mention in larger stories in USA Today and U.S. News & World Report.
Alum expresses Ignatian spirituality in series of paintings
Xavier graduate and adjunct professor of painting Holly Schapker found herself so profoundly moved by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius during a pilgrimage she attended that she's spent the last few years putting her feelings on canvas. Now, her series of 25 paintings are part of an upcoming exhibit on campus. Xavier's Center for Mission and Identity and the Women of Excellence are having a wine and cheese reception with Schapker on Thursday, May 20. To reserve your spot at the event, go to www.xavier.edu/wox or call 513-745-3192.
Alumni receive discounts on local marketing courses
Alumni in the Cincinnati area are being offered member-rate discounts to three half-day marketing events being facilitated by Xavier faculty and industry experts. The events, done in conjunction with the Xavier Leadership Center, focus on experiential customer insight, succeeding in a networked economy and measuring return on marketing investment.
