James A. Glenn Writing Center Policies and Procedures

Appointment Policy:

Appointments made in advance are recommended, although walk-in appointments are often possible if a tutor is available. Appointments can be scheduled over phone or in person and are most productive if set for several days before the piece of writing is due. In addition, all appointments are scheduled on the half hour (beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday through Friday) or at the top of the hour on Sundays (1 - 9 p.m.) since our tutors rotate on an hourly basis.

Please provide at least twenty-four hour notification when canceling appointments.

Computer use does not require an appointment; however, students using the computers are required to sign in at the front desk upon entering the Writing Center.

Referral Policy:

The following centers on campus offer additional assistance to students who are engaged in specific writing tasks or have particular needs regarding reading and writing:

  • Learning Assistance Center: Located on the first floor of Kuhlman Hall, the Learning Assistance Center provides services for students with disabilities, peer tutoring free of charge for a variety of different subject areas, peer advising in the residence halls, a LAC library which provides information about learning disabilities, study skills and other related topics, and discussion groups for AD(H)D (Attention Deficit [Hyperactivity] Disorder. For more information, call 745-3280.
  • Career Services: The Center for Career and Leadership Development provides assistance to students seeking employment upon graduation. In addition, CCLD offers assistance with formatting and reviewing resumes, cover letters, and graduate school applications, and offers several sample documents for student use. Although the Writing Center is completely capable of working with students with writing of this kind, students may benefit from the additional assistance offered by CCLD.
