During this holiday season, I would like to thank all the wonderful people that support the Women of Excellence (WOX) program through attending our events, mentoring our students and as members of the Giving Circle.
As always, we welcome your insights and thoughts on how we as a community can continue to focus on our mission to honor, extend and advance the legacy of Xavier and Edgecliff's extraordinary women graduates, as well as provide opportunities for women to grow as organizational and philanthropic leaders for the University. Please share your input by emailing me at wox@xavier.edu or calling 513-745-2865.
Best wishes for a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.
Kind Regards
,

EDGECLIFF GRADUATES BOOK PRESENTATION
Two Edgecliff grads who are sisters, both published authors, spoke at a unique joint WOX and Edgecliff event last month. Twenty women met to hear Jan Hoetker Doherty '62 and Deanna Hoetker Hurtubise '66 tell their stories about how they were surprised by their passion to write and by the demand for their books.
Jan's book is a true hands-on description of therapeutic experiences from gardening to crafts and artwork that can be used for soul mending for the elderly and for you people. Xavier's Montessori Lab School has a copy of Jan's book and sees the synergy with young and old alike in learning to experience concepts that are in nature and in our lives.
Deanna's years as a high school French teach, as well as many trips to France, led her to write a trilogy for middle school students about the earliest history of the French culture. Middle school books are really "in" right now and she has hit a home run especially appealing to boys. Her first book The Boys Who Discovered Yesterday is a fun and unique fiction based on the discovery of prehistoric cave drawings in the early twentieth century in rural France. The other two to be published are at the artist's studio for illustration.
If you ask any of the "excellent women" who attended they will tell you that both Deanna and Jan held the room in awe of their experiences and of their impact on others' lives. It was a most inspiring and uplifting evening.
