Welcome
to the Women of Excellence e-newsletter. Women of Excellence is a
community of women with a shared interest in Xavier University who wish
to be meaningfully engaged with the University and each other. Created
by University President Michael J. Graham, S.J. to honor, extend and
advance the legacy of Xavier and Edgecliff alumnae, it is guided by a
committee of the President's Advisory Council, and is committed to
providing opportunities for women to grow as organizational and
philanthropic leaders and work to further the mission and vision of the
University. |
Our New Look The Women of Excellence web site has a new look. Check out our newly redesigned site at www.xavier.edu/wox. |
Celebrating the Journey
In
1969, Xavier's Board of Trustees voted to accept women as full-time day
students, and 52 women enrolled. In recognition of the 40th anniversary
of the admission of women as full-time students, Xavier is hosting a
yearlong series of events that draw attention to and celebrate the
contribution of women. Join us for the kickoff event on Oct. 19 at 6:00
p.m. at the Cintas Center. To see the complete list of events celebrating this anniversary year, or to read about the rich legacy of women at Xavier, visit www.xavier.edu/celebratewomen. |
 Seeking Mentors for Students
The
Women of Excellence mentoring program is a partnership with the
University's Career Services Center. Bethany Kilgore, Assistant
Director, Experiential Education and Mentoring, is looking for a few
good women and men to match with students who have requested mentor
relationships. She is actively recruiting individuals who can assist
students in exploring career opportunities that complement their
anticipated degrees and interest. View the areas of interest.
This is a great opportunity to assist students and help them look
beyond traditional career paths for their major and help them discover
the world of opportunities available to them. It is not necessary to
live in Cincinnati to become a meaningful mentor to a Xavier student.
It's easy to become a mentor by completing our online form.
Learn more about the mentoring program at the Fall Kick Off
Mentoring Social on Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Gallagher Student Center,
Clock Tower Lounge; 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Call 513-745-3141 for more
information. |

Update on Giving Circle Grant
Mathematics Manipulatives
Sheila
Doran, Acting Director for the Center for Adult and Part Time Students
and a mathematics and computer science faculty member, oversaw the
purchase this summer of mathematic manipulatives for use in the
training of early and middle childhood teachers.
Thanks to a Women of Excellence Giving Circle Grant, mathematic
manipulatives will help teach future educators and the training
received will allow them to serve as positive female role models for
young children, breaking the cycle of those who believe women cannot
succeed at mathematics. View more details about these classroom aids. |
Prayer Card
The
Examen, a prayer of awareness that Ignatius Loyola taught in his
Spiritual Exercises, helps one notice God's presence in our daily
lives. This modern adaptation invites reflection upon five points for
spiritual thanksgiving, grace, and introspection. If you would like an
Examen card, contact mission-identity@xavier.edu. Include your address and state that you heard about it from the WOX e-newsletter. |
Women's MBA Association
The
Xavier University Women's MBA Association aims to inspire, empower and
unite women by providing a forum for support and professional
development. Members and non members alike are invited to join in these
opportunities.
