Women of Excellence is a community of women with a shared interest in Xavier University who wish to be meaningfully engaged with the University and each other. Created by University President Michael J. Graham, S.J., to honor, extend and advance the legacy of Xavier and Edgecliff alumnae, it is guided by a committee of the President's Advisory Council, and is committed to providing opportunities for women to grow as organizational and philanthropic leaders and work to further the mission and vision of the University. |
Women of Excellence NCAA Pregame Celebration
Cheer on the Xavier women's basketball team on Sunday, March 21, as the Musketeers compete in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Cintas Center. Women of Excellence is hosting a pregame reception from 10:30 a.m. to noon, just before tip-off. The Xavier women's team is guaranteed to play in one of the two games at either noon or 2:30 p.m. Cost: $10 for the pregame reception and Sunday session game tickets. Register online. Karen Wells: McDonald's VP to keynote Distinguished Speaker Series
Registration is still open for the WOX Distinguished Speaker Series on Thursday, March 25. Karen Wells, vice president of strategy and menu for McDonald's USA and a 1989 alumna of Xavier University's Williams College of Business is speaking on “Inclusion and Diversity in Business: A Journey of Lessons Learned.” The event at the James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center in Xavier's Cintas Center starts at 7:30 a.m. Cost: $25 person, breakfast included. Join WOX Giving Circle
Consider joining the Women of Excellence Giving Circle as a way to commemorate the 40th anniversary of women attending Xavier. The deadline to join is Thursday, April 1. Membership connects you with an amazing group of Xavier women and gives you the opportunity to learn about and vote on projects submitted by University faculty, staff and students. Giving Circle Awards Luncheon
The recipients of this year's Giving Circle grants will be announced Tuesday, April 27, at an 11:30 a.m. luncheon in the James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center in Cintas Center. The accomplishments of the 2009 Giving Circle grant recipients will be honored as well. The event includes lunch. Cost: $20 for Giving Circle members and $25 for non-members.

Growing by Leaps and Bounds
Career Services now has 106 matched mentor pairs–more than double the number at the end of the 2008-09 academic year. The program, which is gaining momentum with its online presence, also is growing with the help of resources provided by the Women of Excellence. The annual mentor luncheon, which brings together mentors and mentees, is set for Tuesday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cintas Center. It's never too late to become a mentor or mentee. WOX Grant Recipient 1st Conway Fellow
Jennifer Beste, an associate professor of theology, has been awarded the 2010 Conway Fellowship for her project "Seeking Sexual Justice on a Jesuit Campus." The fellowship is an initiative of the new Ruth J. and Robert A. Conway Institute for Jesuit Education within the Center for Mission and Identity. Her project extends research interests in sexual ethics, which began when she participated in the Ignatian Mentoring Program in 2004-05 and was furthered last year with a Women of Excellence grant. Beste's fellowship project will ultimately culminate in a book, Christian Sexual Ethics Encounters Hookup Culture. Read more about the Conway Institute and Fellowship.

A new WOX group on Facebook is gaining momentum, with more than 1,000 fans and others joining daily. Become a fan on Facebook and reconnect with old Xavier friends, learn about Women of Excellence and Xavier events and hear from other women who are proud to be Muskies. Become a fan!

Save the date: May 9 for Dress for Excellence
Our popular Dress for Excellence event is back on Sunday, May 9, when we invite Xavier's graduating female students to meet and mingle with out young alumnae in the Cincinnati area. Jill Haney, a certified image consultant, will present on how to Dress for Excellence on a young alumnae's budget. The event will be held at Banana Republic in Rookwood Commons. Look for an e-mail invitation with more details later this spring. |
