Accounting Notables

  • Our accounting program consistently places 100 percent of its graduates into professional employment or graduate school.
  • Xavier accounting majors participating in the Deloitte & Touche Tax Case Competition (formerly Arthur Anderson) have made it to the national finals once (only 10 of more than 100 schools achieved this) and have received national honorable mention six times (placing Xavier in the top 20 in the country).
  • More than 80 percent of full-time accounting majors participate in the internship program, earning competitive wages and academic credit while gaining relevant work experience.
  • Xavier accounting majors have won numerous awards and scholarships funded by accounting firms, corporations and professional societies. Several members of the tax case competition team have received full scholarships to the University of Denver's Master of Taxation program.
  • The department hosts a volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) site and offers the course, ACCT 312 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, to provide income tax preparation service to low income and elderly members of the community while providing students with tax preparation experience and academic credit.
  • A Xavier accounting major, Sarah Hettiger, won the Ohio Society of CPAs 2005 scholarship competition. Another student, Michael Honan, had the highest score in the state of Ohio on the November, 2003 CPA exam.
