MBA Global Study Course - Cuba

This MBA elective course is designed to provide a high-level survey of the Cuban economic, cultural and geo-political drivers integral to the global economy. By attending faculty lectures and traveling abroad, students have the opportunity to learn Cuban culture and business practices in person. A key focus of the course is for students to develop an understanding and awareness about the many opportunities and challenges faced by businesses abroad. As part of the course requirement s, students are expected to apply the theoretical frameworks learned throughout the MBA program and complete the group assignment.

Course: BUAD 684 Doing Business in Cuba

Credit Hours: 3 Credit Hours

Pre-Requisite: BUAD 500

Elective: General Business, International Business, or Marketing Concentrations
Travel Expenses: $3,850 - Includes airfare, lodging, ground transportation and meals with scheduled International Study events

Deposit Due: $500 deposit due with Registration Form to hold your class placement by Friday, October 11, 2013

Course Components

  • Pre-Trip Lecture: Two mandatory four hour lectures

  • Pre-Trip Assignment: Country overview and research

  • Country Immersion: 10 days in country business visits/ cultural exploration/ marketplace observation

  • Post-Trip Assignment: Group Project/ Business Plan

  • Post-Trip Meetings: Four mandatory three hour meetings for group projects and final presentations

Tentative Company Visits: Taverna de la Muralla, Center for Bank System Training, Camilo Cienfuegos Cooperative, CANEC Consulting
