Cintrifuse | Intro to Basic SEM
Trying to get your message out there? Here's your opportunity to get an understanding of the basic Search Engine Marketing (SEM) concepts you need to get noticed.

SEM Primer: SEM is a form of internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) through optimization as well as through advertising. SEM includes both paid search results (using tools like Google Adwords or Microsoft adCenter) and organic (unpaid) search results (SEO).

Cintrifuse | Intro to Basic Corporate and IP Law
Starting a company or thinking of starting one or have an idea sitting in your basement? Here's your opportunity to get an understanding of the basic legal concepts you need to get launched, and find a better way to protect your ideas with some basic IP concepts.

Law Primer: Companies are people too. Really. A limited company may be sued until all its assets have been exhausted, but no creditor can turn to the shareholders and ask them to meet any deficit. Weak IP can lead to copycats, lawsuits, slow growth, and failure. Strong patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets can help an entrepreneur secure funding, exit, or grow more rapidly. Every start-up has intellectual property, but not all choose to protect the most valuable parts of their business.

Questions? Email Professor Joe Carter for more information.

Xavier Center for International Business & MBA students participate in White House Initiative

This past summer, Xavier University’s Center for International Business (CIB) was invited to participate in the Young African Leaders Mentoring Partnership. This is the Obama Administration’s program to engage young African leaders actively promoting positive change shaping the future of their continent. It supports leadership development, promotes entrepreneurship and connects young leaders with one another and the United States. The CIB was invited to mentor Patricia Nzolantima of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). She is an entrepreneur and a community organizer, looking for academic support to create a micro-lending program for her community.

Three faculty members of the Williams College of Business - Mee-Shew Cheung, PhD, (associate professor of Marketing and director of the CIB), Rebecca Luce, PhD (assistant professor of Management) and Hasan Faruq, PhD (assistant professor of Economics) created an MBA independent study program with four current MBA students to devise a micro-lending service. They hope to support low-income female entrepreneurs in the DRC and provide them with opportunity to improve their economic and social status. The course will use WebEx to connect Xavier students with locals in DRC.

Xavier University MBA Offers Values-Based Leadership Concentration

Xavier University’s Williams College of Business is offering a Values-Based Leadership Concentration (VBL) in its MBA program, starting in spring semester, which begins January, 2013.

Xavier University’s Williams College of Business educates students of business, enabling them to improve organizations and society, consistent with the Jesuit tradition. For more information, call 513-745-3525 or email xumba@xavier.edu
