Web Training and Certification

Spring 2009

Xavier's Office of Web Services is committed to providing excellent training to those who are dedicated to creating, implementing, maintaining and studying the use of the web as it relates to the Xavier website. Our programs will assist those who are tasked with maintaining their department's web initiatives and enhance individual skills and knowledge about creating great web sites.

Xavier employees can take courses that will help them in their web based efforts. Attendees can take a course or two to touch up on their skills or complete a series of courses and earn their Web Master degree. To complete a Web Master degree, participants must complete the Introduction to Campusuite and any two other courses. During the annual Web Week luncheon, (last year held in August 2008) we celebrated those who have received their degree.

We ask that you register for sessions at least two days in advance. But, class seating is limited based on training room space, so we encourage you to register as soon as possible.

All sessions will be held in the STARS training room on the bottom floor of the Campus Services Building. The entrance to the room is next to the Post Office.

Introduction to Campusuite, Xavier's web content management system -
This is a fundamental course for all those who are interested in updating their web site. Campusuite serves as Xavier's means to updating web pages, news, events and staff profiles. It is an easy to use, web-based tool that makes it possible for those who manage their website to make changes easier than ever before.

Introduction to Campusuite: Tuesday, March 31, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Hands on: Using Campusuite videos and photo galleries -
As web sites continue to become more and more engaging, using quality images and adding photo galleries and video elements are part of many sites. Find out how easy it can be to create and use multimedia as part of your web site. Tip: This is a great course for anyone interested in getting started with adding multimedia to their site.

Driving visitors to your website and Using analytics to support your web efforts -
Wondering how to get more traffic to your site? How does your web site play into your overall communication plan? Learn some of the best tips to driving people to your site and keeping them as loyal users. Throughout the Xavier web site, we're tracking how many people are visiting each page, what content they are looking for and how pages and sites fit into the overall University site. This session can show you how to see this information, use it and adapt your web plan to meet your users needs. (This session will be held in the STARS training room on the bottom floor of the Campus Services Building. The entrance to the room is next to the Post Office.)

Utilizing MyXU-
Did you know your could customize your layout and create specific content just for yourself? This course serves as the ultimate guide to getting the most out of your MyXU portal experience as well as future information about MyXU.

Web Trends, Fads and Future -
This new session will focus on the world of social and interactive media including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, FlickR and even Xavier's prospective student portal, the Road to Xavier. We'll also talk about other ways to reach audiences including RSS.

Wednesday's with the Web -
As a special offering to web updaters, members of the Web Services team will be available as part of an open house one Wednesday of each month. Just stop by the STARS training room and we'll be happy to sit with you and help with any web maintenance that you need. From updating your site to faculty profiles; news to events; or even incorporating new ideas you may have. No appointment is necessary, just stop by.
