How will I know if I'll receive credit from the institution I attended?
Credit is given for all academic courses (except co-op and life experience) in which a grade of "C" or better has been received.
If you attended an institution that holds regional accreditation with one of the following institutional accrediting bodies, credit will be granted at Xavier for coursework you have passed. The accrediting bodies include:
MSA - Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools
NASC - Northwest Association of Schools Colleges
NCA - North Central Association of Colleges & Schools
NEASC - New England Association of Schools & Colleges
SACS - Southern Association of Colleges & Schools
WASC - Western Association of Schools & Colleges
Can I find out how my credits will transfer before the application process?
Yes. You may request a preliminary evaluation on the coursework you have completed at another institution. Visit the credit evaluation site.
Will all of my credits transfer into my major?
The response varies depending upon the major you wish to pursue at Xavier. All majors require students to complete the University core curriculum and the major courses. Business majors must also complete the business core. Courses from other institutions may satisfy our University core curriculum, the major, the business core or free electives. The best way to determine how your completed courses fit our curriculum is to submit a transcript for a preliminary evaluation.
How do hours from an institution that operates on the quarter calendar transfer into Xavier Universitys semester system?
A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for a bachelor's degree at Xavier versus 180-quarter hours at a quarter calendar institution. Xavier will accept two-thirds of the hours you complete at a quarter calendar school. For example, if you completed a quarter calendar course for three credits, you will receive two credits on the semester calendar. Please keep in mind that most of our semester courses are equivalent to three credits. At a quarter calendar school you should complete sequential courses within a given year. This will ensure that you will satisfy the requirement for the year on the semester calendar and not lose any credit.
Will my grade point average from the previous institution transfer?
No. Only your credit hours will transfer into the University.
