Integrating Video into your Online Course

recommended file formats

For the Web: The prefered file formats are .mp4(H.264) and .flv(Flash video).

For Blackboard: Smaller file size videos are best if the video is uploaded to Blackboard. File formats such as .wmv and .mp4(H.262) work best.

For Wimba: The prefered file format is .mp4(H.264) or a video file encoded for streaming.

recommended software

The following software are available for use in the Digital Media Lab Faculty Studio.

Camtasia Studio

Camtasia is a screen video capture program. You can define the area of the screen or the window to be captured before recording begins or capture the entire screen area. You can also record live narration and/or use a webcam to complement the recording.

Adobe Premiere Elements/iMovie

Preimere Elemnts/iMovie are entry-level video editing programs. You can clip out videos from longer video, add titles and transitions and output the finished video to many different formats.
