Last day for benefits enrollment

The final day for eligible employees to enroll for 2016 benefits is today, Monday, Nov. 23. Those who have not already completed and submitted enrollment online should review current elections, elect or decline coverage, and add or drop dependents. Access and review all information and the online benefits enrollment site to complete enrollment via the Human Resources Open Enrollment web page. Sustainability director update

Since Sustainability Director Ann Dougherty's departure last summer, Bob Sheeran, vice president for facilities, has met with a variety of constituencies to clarify and focus the role for the next director. Xavier appreciates Ann's vision and hard work during her four-year tenure to deepen and broaden our commitment to sustainability and is determined to advance our sustainability commitment. As part of this commitment, in the next month, look for more information about the position and the hiring timeline.

Community-Engaged faculty

The Eigel Center for Community-Engaged Learning announces its call for faculty academy participants for Spring 2016 during a lunch-and-learn session on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from noon to 1:00 p.m. co-hosted by the Center for Teaching Excellence. The program, which focuses on course redesign and creation using principles of community-engaged learning and scholarship, has graduated more than 50 faculty members. Director Sean Rhiney will give a short presentation. Lunch is provided. RSVP by Nov. 30 at eigelcenter@xavier.edu. Deadline for academy applications is Dec. 20. CTE staff session

The final CTE Faculty in Residence staff session is on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 1:00 p.m. in CLC Room 308. Rashmi Assudani of Management and Entrepreneurship is discussing "Individual Aspects of Creativity and Innovation." Participants will be asked to complete a creative problem-solving profile prior to the session to gauge their level of creativity. Please register for this session by Tuesday, Nov. 24, to allow time for the profile to be ordered. As CTE Faculty in Residence this semester, Assudani has opened her Creativity and Innovation class to observation and has led sessions for staff. Learn more and register at the CTE website.

Happy hour with Fr. Graham

Join Father Graham and other colleagues for the second installment of Hump Day Happy Hour in the Center for Mission and Identity on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. The December Happy Hour is sponsored by Graduate Studies, Information Technologies, Mission and Identity, and Student Enrichment. In the holiday spirit, canned foods are being collected for Inter Parish Ministry. A special surprise is planned at 3:30 p.m. Future happy hours are on Feb. 3, March 2, April 6 and May 4.

Nearly Naked Mile

Registration for the annual Nearly Naked Mile was completed on Friday, Nov. 20. The fun event takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 7:00 p.m. when runners strip down and run a mile. All proceeds benefit the Guatemala Medical Service team and their trip to a Guatemalan village over Spring Break 2016 to provide medical assistance. Chris Potter Trio downtown

Saxophonist Chris Potter makes his first appearance with the Xavier Music Series on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Woodward Theater, 1404 Main St., downtown. A cash bar and free valet are provided. Potter is known as one of the best saxophonists of his generation and is described by Jazz Times as "a figure of international renown.” His impressive discography includes 15 albums as a leader and sideman appearances on over 100 albums. He received a Grammy nomination for his solo work and was named the No. 1 tenor saxophonist in the world in 2014 by Down Beat. Tickets can be ordered online or call 3939. Clothing drive

A student group is seeking clothing donations to help raise funds to benefit the Academy of World Languages Elementary School in Cincinnati. Donated items will be given to the online site Schoola to sell. Schoola will donate 40 percent of the proceeds to the school. Items are being collected through Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Kuhlman Hall and the Fenwick Atrium. Requested items include toddler and children's clothing and women's junior, adult and plus sizes. Purses, bags, hats, shoes, scarves, outerwear, blazers and similar items are accepted but not adult men's or baby clothing.

Donate coats for charity

The Center for Faith and Justice is working with St. Vincent de Paul until Wednesday, Dec. 9, to collect gently worn coats to help people in need. Please help us by checking your closets for any unused coats or warm sweatshirts no longer being used and drop them off in the blue bin right inside the door at GSC Room 310. You may also email minning@xavier.edu or call 3567 to have your donations picked up for you.

Farewell to Denise Jewell

A farewell reception is being held for Denise Jewell, administrative assistant at the Cintas Center, on Monday, Nov. 30, from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in the Schiff Family Conference Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2. Denise is going to work for St. Vincent de Paul as development assistant after 7 and 1/2 years at Xavier. Her last day at Xavier is Monday, Nov. 30.

DegreeWorks unavailable

DegreeWorks will be unavailable from Monday, Dec. 7, through Friday, Dec. 11 for a scheduled upgrade.
