Benefits information

Xavier's annual open enrollment season gets underway with the first in a series of Benefits Information sessions today, Thursday, Oct. 23, from 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. in Smith Hall Room 308. View the upcoming calendar and online registration at Human Resources.

Rate changes in benefits

Employees will notice slight rate changes in the 2015 dental and supplemental vision coverage offered this year. Dental Care Plus and its local provider network are providing the same coverage at a 3-percent discount with a two-year rate guarantee for dental premiums through Dec. 31, 2016. A slight rate increase with no change in plan design will be applied to the supplemental vision in 2015. It also has a two-year rate guarantee. CFO forum

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Maribeth Amyot invites members of the Xavier community to a forum on Monday, Oct. 27, from 3:00 p.m.-4:15 p.m. in Kennedy Auditorium, located in the Conaton Learning Commons.

SAC update

The Staff Advisory Committee is once again meeting regularly and representing issues and concerns of the University's staff to senior management. To keep staff up to date, minutes of the twice-monthly SAC meetings are posted on the Nexus site, and an all-staff forum is in the planning stages. Staff members are also encouraged to continue providing suggestions or comments that the committee might take to senior management on the SAC virtual comment board on Nexus.

Musketeer Madness

Musketeer Madness, the annual event launching the men's and women's basketball season, is on Friday, Oct 24. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with Fan Fest on the plaza in front of Cintas Center. At 7:00 p.m. the event moves inside Cintas for team introductions, skills competitions and an intra-squad scrimmage. Musketeer Madness is also one of the highlight events for Family Weekend which begins the same day. For more information, visit goxavier.com.

Open house

The Office of University Communications hosts a marketing open house today, Thursday, Oct. 23, from 10:30 a.m. to noon for those who need assistance with small projects, web updates and social media inquiries. Antonio Johnson scholarship

Nominations for the 2015 Antonio Johnson Scholarship Award are now being accepted. Any member of the Xavier community may nominate a student for this prestigious scholarship to be awarded at the 39th Annual Antonio Johnson Scholarship Gala on Friday, April 10, 2015. The scholarship is worth full tuition, fees, room and board, and books. The winner receives the scholarship for their senior year. Complete the nomination form to nominate a student.

A Xavier farewell

A farewell reception for Maria Cipollone is being held today, Thursday, Oct. 23, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Clock Tower Lounge in the Gallagher Student Center. Cipollone is retiring after 20 years working in the Bursar's Office.

Memorial Mass

The University remembers Casey Wilson, alumnus of the Class of 2012 and graduate student in education, at the 5:00 p.m. Mass today, Thursday, Oct. 23, in Bellarmine Chapel. Al Bischoff, S.J., is presiding. All who knew Casey during his time at Xavier are welcome to attend. Death in the Xavier Community

Karen Sue (Brueggen) Shaw died on Friday, Oct 17. She had retired after 40 years as a secretary for the Department of Education. A funeral service was held at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home of Independence, Ky., on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
