Fr. Graham invites the Xavier community to celebrate the beginning of the academic year at the annual Spirit Celebration with the Mass of the Holy Spirit and community lunch on Wednesday, Sept. 3. This year's Mass has been designed to be especially welcoming to all by including a number of multi-faith and universal elements. The Mass begins on the Xavier Yard at the Husman Hall stage at 11:30 a.m. and is followed by lunch. All classes and offices are closed from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. to allow faculty, staff and students to attend.
The Xavier community is invited to the University Convocation on Monday, Sept. 8, from 3:00 p.m.-4:15 p.m. in the Duff Banquet Room at the Cintas Center. Fr. Graham is discussing University goals for the year and will be sharing the work of the Planning and Resource Council regarding the strategic plan. There will be time for questions and discussion. The Convocation is being streamed live and concludes with a light reception.
University Station celebration
Members of the Xavier community are invited to an open house on Monday, Sept. 22, from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the new University Station. Take a tour, enjoy snacks at the new Starbucks and register to win prizes. Festivities begin in the new All for One Shop at the corner of Montgomery Road and Cleneay Avenue. Xavier Music Series
The Xavier Music Series 2014-2015 season opens on Sept. 7 with classical guitarist Ana Vidovic. On Sept. 28, the Series welcomes back pianist Christopher O'Riley, who performs his own personal arrangements of Radiohead along with some classical works by Rachmaninoff and others. Tenure information session
Provost and Chief Academic Officer Scott Chadwick and members of the University Rank and Tenure Committee are holding two information sessions on the tenure and promotion process for the current academic year. Faculty are invited to attend any or all of the sessions in the Conaton Board Room on the second floor of Schmidt Hall. Sustainability heroes gallery
Celebrate the life and values of Merelyn Bates-Mims, social sustainability hero and former diversity officer at Xavier, whose story is told in a gallery exhibit in Fenwick Place outside Currito Burrito. Death in the Xavier community
Kyle Hill, former WKRC reporter who also taught at Xavier and was media relations manager for Cincinnati Bell, died Sunday, Aug. 24. Services were held on Friday, Aug. 29, at Christ Church Cathedral.
