FY17 budget development 

The first meeting of the University Planning and Resourcing Council (UPRC) and the Advisory Committee for 2015-2016 is today, Monday, Aug. 31. New UPRC council members include Marco Fatuzzo, Department of Physics, and John Kucia, Administrative Vice President. The UPRC site can be accessed through Nexus on the Employee Hub or on Nexus. New this year is an FY17 Budget Cycle Calendar that provides a timeline for requests to develop the FY17 budget recommendation. Read the complete FY17 budget development announcement.

Sustainability Day

The theme for Sustainability Day on Monday, Sept. 14, is “Consumption Justice.” Events include updates on Xavier's sustainability efforts and remarks by Provost Scott Chadwick. Political theorist Benjamin Barber will be discussing his work, Consumed: How Markets Corrupt Children, Infantilize Adults, and Swallow Citizens Whole, which examines our overproducing economy. The event is from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in Kennedy Auditorium in CLC. Learn more about Barber at Norton Books.

Campus safety training

Safety training opportunities offered by Xavier Police include: the Dangers of Underage Drinking; Active Shooter Response; Personal Safety; Campus Emergencies 101; and Safe and Secure in an Electronic World. View details for each program. The fall safety training calendar is posted on the safety website. Classes are open to the entire University community. CDI re-naming ceremony

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion invites faculty, staff and students to attend the official re-naming ceremony on Monday, Aug. 31, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at the center's location on the second floor of Gallagher. The ceremony marks a new identity for the center that seeks to engage the entire Xavier community in dialogue about issues related to diversity and inclusion. Hear about the center's work, tour the space, and pick up some CDI swag. Food and drink will be available.

Annual performance goals

Staff and administrators are invited to identify activities that will support “the appropriation of Xavier's Jesuit identity at the individual…level” when making this year's performance goals to align with the University's 2015-2016 Goals. Entry deadline extended

Supervisors are advised that the timesheet submission deadline for student workers is extended to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, instead of Monday, Aug. 31. Students who can't access their time sheets by Wednesday, Sept. 2, should contract Payroll at 3436. View the student payroll schedule and instructions for Webtime entry.

CTE keynote: Chad Hershock

Faculty and staff are invited to the CTE fall keynote presentation by Chad Hershock, of Carnegie Mellon University's Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence and Pedagogical Innovation, on “How Teaching Works: Evidence-Based Teaching Strategies,” on Monday, Aug. 31, from 3:00 p.m-4:15 p.m. in Kennedy Auditorium. Reception follows.

iPads at the library

The University Library now provides iPads for check-out at the Connection Center desk in the CLC. These iPads may circulate outside the CLC building for the day. The library encourages students, faculty and staff to provide suggestions and feedback about their experience when returning the iPads. Studio portrait sessions

The new academic year is a good time to update your photo for the Xavier directory. The Office of Marketing and Communications offers studio sessions for faculty and staff to have portraits made or updated. The next session is on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 11:00 a.m. to noon and 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The new photography and video studio is located in Alumni Room 114. No appointment is necessary.

Retirement 101

The second session of Retirement 101 includes tips on navigating Social Security and Medicare. Sue Denny from the Social Security Office is presenting the session on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Schott Hall presentation room. Manresa thanks

The Office of Student Involvement thanks the entire campus community for their assistance and support with Manresa 2015: Start Here. Many people volunteered to assist with move crew, check-in, faculty discussion sessions, interest sessions, parent/family programs, transfer orientation and the Veteran student orientation program.

Art at the X

Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to announce the eighth all-media juried exhibition Art at the X featuring entries from regional high school art teachers. The artists' opening was held on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Xavier University art Gallery in the A.B. Cohen Center. The exhibition is on display through Sept. 26. View a sample of art on display.
