Summer Service celebration
The Xavier Summer Service Celebration of Learning is on Friday, Aug. 1, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Conaton Board Room in Schmidt Hall. Join the 2014 Summer Service interns, community partners, program funders and the Xavier community as the interns share personal reflections on what they learned this summer. The Information Technologies Planning and Project Management Office is hosting a technical conference on Wednesday, July 30, from 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in Room 130 of the McDonald Library. Susan Abel of University Relations is discussing how business process improvement initiatives can help your department operate more efficiently. All are welcome to attend. Tech Boot Camp for faculty
Information Technologies is hosting a Technology Boot Camp on Monday, Aug. 18, for faculty. The camp includes presentations on a wide range of innovative solutions and topics from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Topics to be covered include Canvas, 3-D printing, online polling, classroom technology, video-conferencing and mobile devices. Tech Summer Camp
The last two sessions of Information Technologies' Technology Summer Camps for faculty and staff take place on Tuesday, July 29, and Tuesday, Aug. 12. Attendees learn technology tips and tricks that can be applied to your work at Xavier. Director, Audit and Compliance
Ken O'Brien is the new Director for Audit and Compliance. Ken is responsible for directing and managing the internal audit and compliance oversight functions of the University and coordination of Xavier's University-wide policy gap initiative. Ken has a BS from the University of Cincinnati, an MBA from Northern Kentucky University and is a CPA. He has worked for Kroger, Union Central Life and Ameritas.
Bursar's Office process changes
Xavier faculty and staff are invited to attend the final information session about changes taking place in the Bursar's Office. Changes include a new billing cycle, new due date, new payment plan structure including an enrollment fee, the elimination of interest charges, the implementation of late fees, dynamic billing, online deposits and a new refund process. The final session is on Friday, Aug. 8, from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in Kennedy Auditorium in the CLC. No RSVP is needed.
In preparation for its move to the new location at University Station, the bookstore has marked all clearance items down by an additional 30 percent off through Sunday, Aug. 3. The X-shirt, as well as many other Xavier University T's, are as low as $4.99.
Death in the Xavier Community
Ervin Kattelman, father of Cindy Amshoff in University Relations and grandfather of alumnae Emily Helferich and Holly Hemak, died Sunday, July 20, at age 83. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 23, at St. James Church. Memorials may be made to St. James Church or Hospice of Cincinnati.
