TRiO grant awarded
The TRiO, Student Support Services Office announced it has been awarded the TRiO, SSS grant from the U.S. Department of Education, providing funding for the next five years. The grant supports the office in serving 160 students who are first-generation, low income and /or have a disability. Xavier's program was one of 1,000 chosen from among more than 1,700 grant applications. With support from the Xavier community, the program has been able to maintain a 95-percent persistence rate and 75-percent graduation rate for its students.
Classes and meetings will be suspended and offices closed from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, so that all may attend Spirit Celebration. The Mass of the Holy Spirit is part of a long Jesuit tradition dating back to 1548 honoring the beginning of the academic year. This year’s celebration is on the Academic Mall and includes a blessing of the newly renovated Alter Hall followed by an ice cream social.
