Sweet 16 updates

Men's basketball has advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in the last eight years. Xavier faculty, staff, alumni and fans are being offered a must-do list for the days ahead:

  • Watch the game today, Thursday, March 26, at 10:17 p.m. ET on TBS as Xavier takes on the Arizona Wildcats.
  • Update your Facebook or Twitter picture to show you're a Xavier fan.
  • Drop some Xavier knowledge on your co-workers or friends.
  • Watch what happened when the Musketeers arrived back on campus from Jacksonville after advancing to the Sweet 16.
  • Keep up with the latest on tickets, game times, viewing parties and more at the Xavier post-season page.

Ryan's Pub is hosting a game watch party in the Gallagher Student Center. The pub's 13 televisions will be tuned in to all of the NCAA Sweet 16 action on Thursday and Friday. Ryan's Pub will have extended hours of 11:00 a.m.-1:00 a.m. on Thursday and 11:00 a.m. to midnight on Friday, March 27. View Ryan's flier to learn more.

Managerial Accounting System

The accounting system initiative involves more than 50 people who are making foundation decisions for the model. Please visit the MAS site on Nexus for a description of the initiative, documents that show “Key Decisions” made to-date and yet to be made, the structure for “Reporting Units” that enables the system to encompass all areas of the University, the “Reporting Format” that shows the line items to be included in Standard Reports, and a narrative explanation entitled “Course View and Student View, Majors and Minors.” Reports should be available by the end of April showing direct revenues, expenses and contribution margins by department and program for all areas of the University.

Circle of Peace

In response to violence in our communities, the Xavier community is invited to join a vigil to encourage peace over hate on our campus and throughout the world on Sunday, March 29, at 9:15 p.m. on the Academic Mall. The vigil is co-sponsored by the Office of the President, the Center for Interfaith Community Engagement, the Center for Faith and Justice, the Multicultural, Gender and Women's Center, and the Student Government Association. Celebrate excellence

The Celebration of Excellence is on Tuesday, April 7, from 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Conaton Board Room. Center for Teaching Excellence director Stephen Yandell is addressing the impact of the Ignatian Colleagues Program on his work at Xavier, and Michael Graham, SJ, is recognizing those who have completed or reached a milestone in their participation in a Mission and Identity professional development program this year.

Language Matters

The PBS special documentary film, "Language Matters with Bob Holman," by director David Grubin is being shown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, in Kennedy Auditorium of the CLC Room 412. The film explores how different languages around the world have impacted society. There will also be a discussion session with Holman, a poet, professor and film-maker who's been featured in the New York Times and The New Yorker. View the Language Matters flier to learn more.

Electric fueling station

Xavier is one of five locations for new electric fueling stations, known as DC Fast Chargers, being announced by the City of Cincinnati today, Thursday, March 26. Nancy Bertaux, professor of economics and sustainability, will be at the announcement today at the Cincinnati Zoo led by Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and Cincinnati Zoo Director Thane Maynard. Drew Christiansen, SJ

Drew Christiansen, SJ, delivers the Ethics/Religion and Society Lecture, "Experience and Virtue: An Ignatian Model of Christian Moral Development," on Friday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Conaton Board Room. Christiansen received his BA from Fordham University, an MDiv and STM from Woodstock Theological College, and a PhD from Yale University. He is a Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Global Development in Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. For more information, visit the E/RS Lecture Series.

Community Action Day

Community Action Day is on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on the Xavier Yard. This is Xavier's largest day of service each semester and is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and alumni to work with local service organizations in the surrounding communities. Innovation Training

There is still space in the April Innovation Design Inspiration training for faculty and staff. The program on Thursday, April 9, includes breakfast at 8:30 a.m., program at 9:00 a.m. and lunch. Cyber security awareness

Threats to confidential data governed by Xavier University systems are among the topics covered in a web-based cyber-security awareness program presented by Information Technologies (IT) and the Office of Human Resources (OHR). The virtual training, accessible through OHR's site, is offered to employees through SANS Institute, a specialist in information- and cyber-security. There are 44 modules to review. Currito Burrito blood drive

Currito, Burrito without Borders and the Hoxworth Blood Center have teamed up for a blood drive this week in front of Bellarmine Chapel. All Donors receive a free burrito.
