Graduate
Applicants for initial licensure programs must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university. They must be appropriately certified/licensed in an initial teaching area and attain a minimum score of 35 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). A 2.7 GPA in their baccalaureate program is also required.
Students admitted for post-baccalaureate initial preparation programs and advanced programs are subject to a careful review of their academic programs and degree.
Their programs must have included a breadth, with some depth, of coursework in the humanities, English (both composition and literature), mathematics, the social sciences (to include history) and the natural/physical sciences. Their previous programs are reviewed, and provided they seek to obtain licensure in a teaching field (middle school, grades 7-12, or grades pre K-12), the records must indicate that they have fulfilled, within time constraints previously stated, the specific courses or their equivalents, as have been approved (NCATE Standards) for Xavier University's licensure requirements. They must have attained a 2.7 GPA in the accepted courses (4.0 standard).
