Students majoring in theology are required to complete
12 courses (36 credit hours) in theology along with

or specialized area of concentration.
Students minoring in theology are required to complete
three courses (9 credit hours) beyond the three theology
courses required of all Xavier students. Courses required

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION MINOR
The Religious Education Minor
is designed to prepare theology majors to meet the Archdiocese
of Cincinnati's professional requirements for Catholic
High School Religion Teacher Certification. The Religious
Education Minor alone does not suffice to meet those
professional requirements. Rather, the theology major
must be completed in addition to this minor in order
to satisfy the necessary educational requirements for
archdiocesan certification. The certification standards
of other Catholic dioceses are similar to Cincinnati's,
but students are strongly encouraged to check with the
diocese where they plan to teach religion.
18 credit hours of required
courses: EDFD 110 or PSYC 231, THEO 338, EDMS 350,
and EDMS 470 (9 credit hours)
A 2.00 minimum cumulative average
must be attained in these courses.
