- Xavier University provides 24 hour access to computers for all
students in the computing lab located in Gallagher Student Center.
Also, while in Gallagher, students may check out one of thirty
wireless laptop computers that are available. More information

- In recent years over 95% of undergraduates living in the
university’s residence halls have brought personal computers to

What is the ratio of public
access computers to undergraduate enrollment?
- All Undergraduate students have access to 210 computers (114
PCs, 20 Macs and 74 Windows based laptops) in public access labs
for a 17/1 student FTE* to computer ratio. Additional computers
are available to students in major specific area labs and the
library are not included in this total.

the number of full-time
students enrolled to one-third the

uses e-mail and other software applications on a regular basis?
- All full-time and part-time graduate and undergraduate
students are provided a Xavier University e-mail account. Xavier
University provides student access to numerous software packages
listed on the instructional
technology services website.
- In a 2004 survey of first-year and senior students, 99% of
freshmen and 98% of seniors indicated that they had used e-mail to
communicate with an instructor. In a poll of the class entering in
2004, 98% reported that they expect to use e-mail to communicate
with an instructor or classmates. [top]
Does the campus allow personal
web pages?
- Yes. Students are provided up to 25 Mb of disk space (their
"home" directory) on a campus network server in which they can
store their own files and/or web pages with no additional fee.
Anything stored in the www sub directory in their home directory
is web accessible.
- Students living on campus can host a web server from their
computer in their residence. These servers must be registered to
be accessible from off campus.
- Student organizations can also host a web server (which also
must be centrally registered to be accessible from off campus),
but these are typically available only to members of the

students, faculty, and staff readily accessible electronically?
- University departments are presented alphabetically with
contact information within the appropriate college.
- Individual faculty and staff member contact
information is available. A full corporate directory is
provided through the MYXU portal.
- Student contact
information availability is consistent with Family Education
Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). A searchable directory of
students, faculty and staff is available online, but only e-mail
addresses of registered students are provided. Telephone and
