Direct Care Staff

Presented jointly by Xavier University, College of Social Sciences, Health and Education and Twin Lakes and Twin Towers Senior Living Communities.

Staff members providing direct client care for individuals in extended care settings who are caring for persons with Alzheimer's Disease or other forms of Dementia are invited to attend one or both of the following professional continuing education events.

Session #1: Focusing on What WE Can Do Differently to Make a Difference

Join occupational therapist Teepa Snow in a session designed to help care professionals and caregivers understand why the person with dementia frequently exhibits difficult or challenging behaviors which make care assistance problematic.  This session will review personal, medical and sensory factors and caregiver skills and approaches to reduce challenging behaviors.

The presentation will emphasize the importance problem-solving to help attendees provide care in healthier relationships with clients and to promote better outcomes.

Session #1:  Progression of Loss – Providing Help that Matches Need

Join occupational therapist Teepa Snow in a session designed to help professionals provide more effective services for elders with dementia throughout the disease process.  The goal of the session is to help insure there is a match between the demands and benefits of specific activities and the client’s changing skill sets. 

The presentation will emphasize the importance of implementing a positive approach with structured and sequenced multi-modal cueing when working with people living with dementia.

  2. Take right onto Clinton Springs Ave
