John J. Gilligan Scholarship

Introduction

Two $2,500 scholarships are available on behalf of former Xavier English instructor and Ohio Governor John J. Gilligan. Full-time undergraduate students are invited to apply for this non-renewable, tuition-restricted award.

Eligibility

Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Demonstrate an interest in and aspires to a career in political and public life.
Achieved sophomore or junior class standing.
Will be a full-time student for the year 2012-2013.

Application

Required is,

An essay describing how your American Dream differs from your parents’ American Dream (1,000-1,250 words).
Two faculty or staff recommendation letters.
One page resume that includes extracurricular activities such as job experience, volunteer work, community and/or political involvement and student activities.

Please submit application materials to the Center for International Education by February 1, 2012.
