Study Abroad in Colombia
May 13 - June 18, 2012
Service Learning and Software Engineering
Xavier University is proud to offer a five-week inter-institutional service learning and study abroad summer experience in computing, located at Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia. Computer science students from any Jesuit university will complete a course in Software Engineering on-site, while participating in computer-related service learning projects.
The course will include a team-based project that will be a component in the Javeriana School of Engineering’s Prosofi Center for the Development of Usme Communities. Project teams will mix students from participating Jesuit universities along with students from Javeriana.
Participants will also be directly involved in educational efforts in an Usme neighborhood. The program includes a course in Spanish language and Colombian culture, tailored to each student’s level of Spanish proficiency.
Students will reside in two-bedroom apartments with a kitchenette at the Viaggio Urbano, adjacent to Javeriana University.
