An Ignatian Journey to the Holy Land: Historical, Cultural, and Interfaith Perspectives
The state of Israel and the Palestinian Territories often dominate the news, but few in the West understand the story as told by Jews and Arabs living in the land itself. In this pilgrimage we seek to put a human face on the conflicts many face in this fraught region.
Through visits to archaeological sites and holy places in Israel and Palestine, and through listening to Christian, Jewish, and Muslim residents, participants will learn not only about the past but interfaith and intercultural life today, the sources of conflict, and the strategies by which distinct peoples seek to survive.
We'll visit key sites in the Galilee, West Bank, and Jerusalem. We'll workshop in a Palestinian Church and in an Orthodox Jewish synagogue, and meet with Islamic, Jewish, and Christian leaders. We'll reflect as a group on each days' adventures. Ignatius's own pilgrimage to the Holy Land is an important part of the Ignatian spiritual heritage, and will be an emphasis of our journey.
A four-session webinar will be offered on March 1, 15, 29, and April 12, with reading assignments to meet your leaders and fellow travelers, become oriented, and prepare for all that we will see, hear, and experience.
Leaders for the journey are the Rev. Dr. Patricia Tull, the Rev. Dr. Sarah Melcher, and the Rev. Dr. Kristine Suna-Koro.
