Main Stage Series

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Words and Music By
ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER and TIM RICE

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams, and his father's favorite son. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

Performances: 7:30 p.m. October 16-19 and 1 p.m. October 18

Angels in America  By TONY KUSHNER

An epic yet intimate drama centered on two couples (one gay, one straight) whose relationships are disintegrating, Angels in America reveals the darker side of America in the 1980s – one of greed, conservatism, sexual politics, and the discovery of an awful new disease: AIDS.

Subtitled "A Gay Fantasia on National Themes," the play is a political call to arms for the age of AIDS. Mr. Kushner's convictions about power and justice are theatrically expressed in styles ranging from precise realism to surrealistic hallucination, from black comedy to religious revelation. Characters move in and out of conversations with each other, sometimes even overlapping vignettes, and settings rapidly change from offices to bedrooms, from hospital wards to an imaginary South Pole.

Performances: 7:30 p.m. March 26-29, 2009

Power Plays   by ELAINE MAY and  ALAN ARKIN

Nothing is as it seems. Supposed roles of power in society are challenged in this unusual piece of “theatre of the mind”. The evening consists of three short plays: The Way of All Fish, a bizarre office exchange between a business executive and her meek secretary; Virtual Reality, a comical glimpse into the seedy lives of two men involved in an illegal warehouse transaction; and In and Out of the Light, in which a dentist plans a bit of adultery with his ex-stripper hygienist.

Performances: 7:30 p.m. October 16-19

Macbeth   by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Among the best-known of William Shakespeare's plays, this archetypal tragedy tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends. Macbeth is a decorated and loyal war hero, but loyalty only goes so far when greatness and history beckon and murder is simply a matter of military coups and secret assassinations.
