Organizational Descriptions

Executive Branch – consists of a President, Legislative Vice President, and Administrative Vice President.  These elected officers are responsible for promoting communication among all branches of student government and the Xavier community.

Student Senate – consists of sixteen Senators elected at large in the Spring and four Senators elected from freshman and transfer students in the Fall. The Senate meets on a weekly basis to discuss student issues, grant charters and budgets to student clubs/organizations, and perform other duties. The Legislative Vice President is the presiding officer over the weekly meetings. The Senate Coordinator is the presiding officer over all internal matter of Senate.

Student Activities Council (SAC) – consists of thirty students appointed to one year terms by the Administrative Vice President and ratified by the Senate to serve as the primary programming board on campus. This group provides meaningful and enjoyable social, cultural, and educational programs to all Xavier students. The Administrative Vice President is the presiding officer over the weekly meetings. The SAC Chair is the presiding officer over all internal matters of SAC.

Student Rights Representative (SRR) – defends the judicial interests of Xavier students according to the rules specified in the Student Handbook, and other relevant documents; to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Xavier students; and to provide student leadership in education and controlling violations of the Student Handbook.  The student serving in this position is appointed annually by the SGA President and ratified by the Senate.

Student Conduct Liaison (SCL) - is charged to implement and operate the Alternative to Documentation Fines Service Program. The SCL is to create working relationships with the surrounding community service sites and foster an environment in which students can go to do meaningful service as an alternate to paying a fine after their first documentation offense. From there, the SCL helps to monitor the progress of the students and communicate with the proper conduct official the outcome of the service hours.

University Committees – are formed by the University President and consists of administrators, faculty, and students. Each committee advises the University President and University Vice Presidents on different areas of the University. Students serving on these committees are appointed by the SGA President and ratified by the Senate.

Suboordinate Bodies

Board of Elections (B of E) – is a group composed of students appointed by the SGA President and ratified by the Senate to organize and conduct all student government elections.

Club Sports Council (CSC) – is a group composed of a representative from the Senate Financial Affairs Committee and six representatives elected by the presidents of each of the Club Sports. The CSC acts on behalf of SGA in supervising club sports, recommending allocations for club sports, and dispersing of funding to individuals club sports.

Commuter Council – is a group of students that strive to program activities for commuter students and represent the concerns of commuters with SGA and to the University administration.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) - (formerly the Black Greek Council) is the organization that serves as a governing body for the historically Black Fraternities and Sororities at Xavier.  NPHC is a nationally-affiliated organization that works to provide resources to the Divine 9 chapters represented at Xavier, including: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. 

Resident Student Association (RSA) – is a group of executive officers, hall councils, and apartment’s council. This group strives to represent the interests and concerns of residence hall students to SGA and the University administration, as well as provide programming for residence hall and apartments students.

Senior Board – is a group of students who plan and program events that are held throughout the school year and especially during Senior Week for the senior class.
