Orientation for First Time Students
Manresa 2010 takes place Friday, August 20 through Monday, August 23.
Manresa is a four-day program designed especially for new students. It's an opportunity to meet the people with whom you will be spending the next few years, to figure out where your classes are, to experience the fun of college before classes start and to meet upper-class students who will show you the ropes. One primary goal of Manresa is for students to make the transition to life at Xavier. New students and their families are introduced to the campus, Xavier's programs, faculty, administrators, and other students and families. Most importantly, Manresa welcomes you as a member of the Xavier family and addresses any questions, concerns or curiosities you might have about the experiences Xavier has to offer.
Manresa History
We admit that Manresa isn't a likely name for an orientation program—but it makes perfect sense to us. The name "Manresa" refers to the town in Spain where Saint Ignatius Loyola took time to reflect on his life—past, present and future. This parallels the reflection students and parents often experience as Xavier's new students begin their collegiate careers. Our orientation program facilitates similar reflection opportunities, earning it the name Manresa. Except for the enthusiastic orientation team who will be welcoming you to campus, you will have the campus all to yourselves. So, take this great, fun-filled opportunity to acquaint yourself with Xavier and relieve any social, spiritual or academic worries you may have.

Here is what some Xavier students have to say about Manresa:
"To me, Manresa means finding your own place amidst all that is going on in the outside world. It is a short break from the stress of daily life in order to spend time finding oneself. It is the beginning to a new journey in life."
