Manresa: New Student Orientation Overview
So, what really happens during the Manresa program? Below we have highlighted key components of the program for you:
Small Group Experience
As a new student, you will experience Manresa with a small group of other new students. You will have two experienced upperclass student leaders to show you the ropes and guide you through your first few days as a Xavier Musketeer. Your learn about your small group via the Road to Xavier website and will receive information from your group leaders before you arrive to campus.
Academic Preparation
Your small group leaders will be sure to help you find your classrooms and the best study places on campus. They'll even give you insider tips about the college course load and can show you where to sign up for a tutor or get help writing a paper. During Manresa, you'll also have the chance to meet with a faculty member while you discuss your common reading program book. These faculty discussion leaders can help you get a sense of what to expect in the classroom. You will also get to meet with faculty members from your major and learn more about specific course requirements. Make sure to take advantage of the opportunity to ask your small group leaders and Xavier faculty what to expect in order to help you do your best.
Making the Transition
Whether you think you are ready for the college experience or not, you will experience a lot of changes during your first few days on campus. At Manresa, we will get you ready for this transition. Whether it be adjusting to your daily routine in a new place or simply calming jitters, Manresa will help. Besides meeting the people with whom you will spend the next four years, we will introduce you to all your resources and options at Xavier. We'll help you learn about topics from managing your budget to signing up for a spinning and much more in between. Of course, there is a lot to do at Xavier and we want to show you how to get involved and start thinking about who you want to be as a Xavier Musketeer.
The Social Scene
One of the best aspects of the Manresa program is that it provides you a space to meet your new classmates and begin to feel at home. We help you do that through small group discussion and large group events like Mentalist Craig Karges, a semi-formal dance, and PLAYFAIR. You'll have an opportunity to connect with your new classmates and upperclass orientation leaders while also discussing issues facing college students across the nation.
Spiritually Speaking
The spiritual side of Manresa is one of the things that helps the program stand apart. We make time during the program for you to take a pause and think about your next steps while also learning about what it means to attend a Jesuit school. You'll have an opportunity to experience the community of Xavier through discussion, reflection, prayer and even just plain fun.
