Manresa: New Student Orientation Overview
So, what really happens during the Manresa program? We've broken down each day into a different theme, with the core values of Xavier permeating throughout the entire program.
Small Group Experience
As a new student, you will experience Manresa with a small group of other new students. You will have two experienced upperclass student leaders to show you the ropes and guide you through your first few days as a Xavier Musketeer. You can learn about your small group via the Road to Xavier website and will receive information from your group leaders before you arrive to campus.
Day 1: Getting Acquainted
The first day of Manresa focuses on helping you get settled into the Xavier community. The day includes your official university welcome, campus open houses, and the first meeting with your Manresa small group. The day concludes with a high energy program to connect you with your classmates.
Day 2: Social/Transitional Issues
Manresa aims to ease your transition into college life both in and out of the classroom. For this reason, the second day focuses on social and transitional issues such as safety, relationships, time management, and more!
Day 3: Xavier's Jesuit Tradition
The third day takes you off campus and allows you to explore our Jesuit tradition through faith, service, and community. It includes recreation time with your class and your choice of a Catholic mass or interfaith service. The night ends with a favorite for new students, the “Black and White Dance.
Day 4: Academic Transition
Manresa concludes by providing you the opportunity to get acclimated to Xavier academics with the Common Reading Experience-hear from the author, discuss the book with faculty and learn more about your major department. Your small group leaders will be sure to help you find your classrooms and the best study places on campus. They'll even give you insider tips about the college course load and can show you where to sign up for a tutor or get help writing a paper. You will also get to meet with faculty members from your major and learn more about specific course requirements. Make sure to take advantage of the opportunity to ask your small group leaders and Xavier faculty what to expect in order to help you do your best.
