Peer Leadership Team
The Peer Leadership Team is a group of 12-16 student leaders who educate their peers about leadership skills and issues relevant to college age students. They do so by designing and implementing leadership development opportunities in conjunction with Office of Student Involvement. The Peer Leadership Team provides opportunities for all students to grow in leadership through workshops, retreats, and speakers. In addition, the members of the team continually develop and enhance their individual leadership skills and talents in their various roles on the team.
Team Structure
Peer Leadership is recognized by the Student Government Association as a student working group. This status permits the team to have a club account and work in conjunction with Student Government.
Peer Leadership Team operates loosely under the philosophy of the Social Change Model. In this respect, the team recognizes that leaders are agents of positive change working for the betterment of Xavier students, the campus, and the Cincinnati community. We recognize that ALL people are potential leaders, not just those with formal leadership positions. As such, the team is organized with a collaborative, committee-based structure. Each team member is a member of one of the three committees listed below.
- Special Events Committee
This committee provides flexible leadership programming to fit the needs of the Xavier community. Each year, members design and facilitate collaborative programs that demonstrate leadership in each of the following forms: leadership as reflection, leadership as recognition, leadership as action, leadership as education, and more. Committee members are also responsible for co-ordinating the annual Club Olympics competition. Find out more.
- Emerging Leaders Committee
This committee is responsible for designing and facilitating programs for emerging campus leaders, including the annual Emerging Leaders overnight retreat for first and second year Xavier students and weekly leadership workshops. These programs help students identify and enhance their leadership skills. Committee members serve as mentors to their peers and model ways in which participants can apply the leadership lessons they learn to their clubs and organizations. Find out more.
- Advancing Leaders Committee
This committee is responsible for organizing leadership development opportunities for Xavier’s more experienced or advancing student leaders. The primary responsibility is the Advanced Leadership Institute. This cohort-based leadership program provides an opportunity for more experienced student leaders to continue to grow in their leadership development. Find out more.
