Club Day on the Mall
Monday, September 8, 2008
With 100 campus clubs to choose from, competition for students is fierce on the Xavier University campus. That's why "Club Day on the Mall" at Xavier is something to see. It is a time for each club and organization to display what their club is all about. "Club Day on the Mall" is held every year in the Fall semester. If you are interested in the event, look for it in the XU Master Calendar or in your Xavier Days personal calendar.
The club with the most creative display wins a $100 prize, so you can imagine what the students come up with to make sure their club gets noticed. It's a festive, fun atmosphere that forces busy students to stop what they're doing and check out the latest clubs the campus has to offer.
And what types of clubs are popular these days with college students? Sports, language and political clubs are still going strong. So are service clubs. At Xavier, all clubs are required to do a service project during the school year in keeping with the Jesuit tradition of service. However, clubs solely dedicated to service are also big on campus. A few of the newest are the Alternative Break Club (service during spring break), SOL (Student Organization Latinos) and Take Back the Night.
