Student Social Work Organization
45 Undergraduate Members
In February 2007, the Student Social Work Organization at Xavier was formed. The organization wasted little time in starting to hold events and plan activities. During the 2007-2008 academic year activities included holding a Violence Awareness Panel & Clothesline Project, a Coats, Cash and Can Drive for the Freestore Foodbank, Movie fundraisers for the club, presentations on homelessness, and participation in the Cincinnati Take Back the Night event. The organization was also honored by having its founding president honored as BSW Student of the Year by NASW Ohio Chapter, Region VI.
In the same newsletter, Annette Davis class of 2008 published an article on testifying in the courts.
Phi Alpha National Honor Society
In February 2011, Phi Alpha National Honor Society for social work programs granted a chapter, Rho Lambda, to Xavier University. The purpose of Phi Alpha is to provide a closer bond among students of social work, to recognize academic excellence, and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Social work majors are eligible to be inducted after completing 8 credit hours of required social work courses, achieving an overall GPA of 3.0, and achieving a 3.25 GPA in required social work courses. Rho Lambda, in conjunction with the Student Social Work Organization, will host service opportunities, social events and other activities to enhance the experience of social work majors at Xavier.
