Meet the Singers

 

Senior Members

Amanda Edwards (Vice President)
Amanda is a senior majoring in Communications and Spanish, with a minor in theatre.  She lives to sing, dance and act.  Some of her favorite roles on the Xavier stage include Elizabeth in The Role of Della, Miranda in Heaven, Please Hold, MaryBeth Percy in Dead Man Walking, and the lovely, bipolar Duchess in last years Singers show, "Alice Through the Looking Glass."  You may also have seen her locally as Margaret Cutler in Sharonville Players' The Man Who Came to Dinner, or as Elieri in NewGate Celtic Theatre's A Child's Christmas in Wales.  She loves all her supermctasgreat Singas, and special love goes out to all of the fiends.  LeThankyou.

John Buelt
John Buelt is a Senior Education Major who has been with the group for four years. He used to play football in high school.

Junior Members

Caitlin McCarthy(President)
Caitlin McCarthy is a junior, Natural Sciences, Pre-med major from Cincinnati, Ohio.  She has had previous theatrical experience with Seton/Elder Performance Series, Cincinnati Young People’s Theater, Xavier Players, and it is in her third year with University Singers.  Caitlin would like to thank her parents for their unconditional love and support and her friends for putting up with her constant singing and dancing.

Laura Teal
Laura Teal is a junior Nursing major and PAG recipient from North Canton, OH. This is her third year in Singers and she is so excited to be a part of such an amazingly talented and fun group of people! You might have seen her as the unicorn in last year's show. In her time away from Singers and studying, Laura is an officer for the Student Nurses Organization and enjoys being outside, reading, cooking, and watching scary movies. After graduation, don't be surprised if you hear that she is living in New York City in a house with at least one princess tower and secret passageway! Laura would like to thank her family and friends both near and far for their ongoing support.

Scott Brickner (Event Coordinator)
Scott Brickner is a Nursing major from Tiffin, OH.  Previous roles include “The trophy bass” and he was the Mad Hatter in last year’s show.

Sydney Stan (Dance Captain and PR Coordinator)Sydney is a Junior Advertising major from Akron, OH and is currently pondering a minor in Spanish.  She has been with this group for 3 years and was Alice in the Singers’ rendition of Alice Through the Looking Glass last year. She’d like to thank her family and friends for their encouragement over the years.

Sophomore Members

Andy Busch
Andy Busch is a sophomore math major with a secondary education minor.  He has a performing arts grant and has appeared in Dead Man Walking and Smokey Joes Café here at Xavier.  This is his second year in Xavier University Singers and he was the caterpillar in last year’s show.  He would like to thank his family and friends for their support and his fellow singers for making the group so enjoyable.

Derek Brinkley (Treasurer and Secretary)
Derek Brinkley is a sophomore Early Childhood Education from Columbus, Ohio. This is his second year serving as the Treasurer/Secretary for the group. In addition to Singers, he is involved with M.O.R.E and the Xavier Players. As a part of the Players, he was in the show "The King Stag" last year and "Smokey Joe's Cafe" this year. Some of his favorite roles include Sky Masterson in "Guys and Dolls", Selsdon in "Noises Off", and his recent role in "Smokey Joe's Cafe". When he graduates, he plans to teach either 2nd or 3rd graders.

Josh Snyder
Joshua Snyder is from Columbus, Indiana.  Joshua is currently a Pre-Law/Criminal Justice Major at Xavier University.  After getting started in theatre from an early age, Joshua has starred in many performances including, Annie Get Your Gun, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, The Pajama Game, and many other shows.  In high school, he was a member of the Jazz Choir as well as the Show Choir. He has taken several years of tap dancing and has been studying piano for 16 years.  He is currently enjoying the XU Singers and plans on continuing his theatre and singing career.  After college, Joshua wants to pursue a career in the FBI.  Joshua would like to thank all his friends and family for their continued support of the years, especially his mother and father.

Kevin Hoggatt
Kevin Hoggatt is a sophomore Philosophy, Politics, and the Public honors major and a Spanish double major at Xavier. He is from Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Ohio, where he was very active in both theatre and show choir. Last year he was Tweedle Dum in Singers production of Alice Through the Looking Glass. He was also Charlie Cowell in the Xavier University Players 2005 production of Music Man. After graduating, he plans to either go on to law school or start a career in politics.

Lisa DeRoberts (Event Coordinator)
Lisa DeRoberts is a sophomore Communications major. She was the Jamaican Tiger Lily in last year's Singers' show and was the beggar woman in this year's production of "Sweeney Todd." Lisa gives her love and thanks to her friends and family in the audience

Julie Redfern
Julie Redfern is a sophomore at Xavier University, and is, of course, thrilled beyond one's wildest imagination to be in her second year of Xavier Singers!  A native of Wilmington, Ohio , Julie is still undecided on a major, but is working vigorously to find one.  Julie has been involved with many shows; some of her favorites include Grease, Children of Eden, Godspell, and obviously Smokey Joe's Cafe with her cohorts Andy and D-Rock (some of Singers finest).  The various interests of Julie include disliking all children, maintaining a healthy environment for her fish and snail, and decorating.  She’d like to extend her love and thanks to all Singers!

Freshman Members

 

Jessica Keckhaver
Jessica Keckhaver is a Freshman Economics and Spanish major with a Latin American Studies minor.  She has been in many shows, a few of them are “Oliver,” “Footloose,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Guys and Dolls.”

Matthew O’Reilly
Matthew C. O'Reilly is a Biology major from Billings, Montana. Although he has not been in many theatrical performances, he did win the best dancer award in high school. “That was pretty sweet,” he adds. He’d like to thank his parents and brother for always being there.

Our Director

Danny Manning
Danny Manning holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Saxophone performance from Alderson Broaddus College and a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. He is the director of the Xavier University Singers and the director/founder of the Cincinnati Youth Musical Theater Ensemble. Other credits include director of the Greensboro Symphony Guild Women's Chorus, Music Director for Starmount Presbyterian Church, and Director of Mu sic for many productions at University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department. Musical directing credits include Hair, Tommy, Ain't Misbehavin', Funny Girl, Footloose, The Wizard of Ox, Camelot, Joseph, Fiddler on the Roof, Music Man, Cinderella, Bugsy Malone, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and most recently Little Shop of Horrors at the Aronoff Center for the Performing Arts. He is also a freelance marching band drill writer as well as keyboardist for local rock band WorldwidE.
