XU Alert Me (click here)
The University provides a voice and text alert communication system, XU ALERT ME that contacts members of the campus community through voice and text messages in the event of an urgent situation. Students, faculty and staff may sign up for the service through the MyXU campus portal.
Emergency Telephones
Emergency telephones are strategically placed throughout Xavier's campus. Pressing the "call" button will immediately connect the caller to a trained dispatcher who will coordinate getting the appropriate emergency response or service to the location.
Use the emergency phones to: report any unusual or suspicious activity, a crime or fire in progress, or an injury or illness; get help to jump-start a car or retrieve keys from a locked vehicle; or to request shuttle or emergency service.
Fire Safety & Prevention
All Xavier buildings are equipped with smoke detectors and fire alarms. In compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Xavier maintains fire prevention plans and emergency action plans for each campus building. These plans provide such information as the type of fire protection equipment or systems available in the building, the responsibilities of occupants to reduce and respond to fire hazards, the personnel responsible for maintenance of fire protection equipment, how a fire evacuation signal is communicated, and where to meet once you have safely exited the building.
The Xavier University Police, Environmental Health and Safety and Residence Life present a fire safety program in the residence halls and conduct evacuation drills at the beginning of the school year.

Campus Escort Service
During nighttime hours when the shuttle service is not in operation, Xavier University Police offer an escort service anywhere on campus, providing the assurance of safe travel. This service is available seven days a week. To reach the escort service, call extension 1000 from any on-campus phone, or 513- 745-1000 from your cell phone.
Shuttle Service
Xavier's free 24-passenger shuttle van service operates on fixed routes on and near the campus. Operating hours are determined by the Office of Student Life and Leadership at the beginning of each semester. (LINK)
Reporting a Crime, Emergency or Suspicious Activity
All crimes, emergencies, or unusual activity should be reported immediately to the Xavier University Police by calling extension 1000 on-campus or 513-745-1000 from your cell phone. Persons reporting a situation are encouraged to supply as much specific information as possible such as exact location, injured persons, and type of emergency service required such as the fire department or emergency medical assistance.
Upon being notified of an emergency or suspicious condition, Xavier University Police will dispatch the appropriate number of officers and emergency equipment to the scene. If physical plant personnel or community services (e.g., police, fire, EMS) are required, they will be notified by Xavier University Police and dispatched to the scene. Anonymous Reporting Hotline (link)
Xavier University is committed to the highest ethical standards. To help maintain those standards, the University has established simple, anonymous ways for you to confidentially report potential ethical misconduct or breaches of laws, rules, regulations, or Xavier University policies. You may report such matters using this web-based hotline or by the telephone hotline.
Xavier Advocate Program (LINK)
Xavier Advocates are available 24 hours a day to provide confidential support, information and advocacy to students who believe they may have experienced harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence and/or stalking. To reach a Xavier Advocate, call 513-745-1000.
Courtesy Services
Xavier University Police are available to assist stranded motorists with dead car batteries, empty fuel tanks and ignition keys in locked cars. To reach an officer, dial 1000 from any on-campus phone, press the "call" button on any emergency telephone, or dial 513-745-1000 from your cell phone.
Health &Wellness
Xavier's McGrath Health and Wellness Center offers medical, counseling and other services to the campus community. Medical services include primary care, allergy, travel medicine, lab, immunization and pharmacy assistance. Individualized care is available for students with special or ongoing medical needs. Counseling services are provided by professional psychologists and counselors to assist with a wide range of personal concerns including anxiety, depression, adjustment, relationships, eating disorders, alcohol and drug issues, family and other problems. Crime Prevention
Xavier University Police officers provide educational programs to students on personal safety, sexual assault/ acquaintance rape prevention, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, and related topics.
Potential illegal actions and on-campus emergencies can be confidentially reported by any student, faculty or staff member. Complaints received by the Xavier University Police which fall outside their jurisdiction will be referred to the appropriate agency, or the complainant will be provided a phone number where the complaint can be filed. The Xavier Police Department works closely with the Cincinnati and Norwood Police Departments in the day-to-day maintenance of a safe campus.
Drug and Alcohol Prevention
The Federal Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 require schools, colleges and universities receiving federal financial assistance to implement and enforce drug and alcohol prevention programs for students and employees. Xavier University prohibits the illegal use, possession, sale, manufacture, or distribution of drugs and alcohol by all students and employees on University premises or as part of any University activity. Any misuse of substances by University students and employees that presents physical or psychological hazard to individuals also is prohibited.
On-Campus Housing
Access to the residence halls is restricted to residents and their guests. Guests may only stay as long they observe the procedures, policies, and regulations established by the residents, staff and the University. Residents will be held responsible for their guest’s behavior.
All residence halls are equipped with a card access entry system. As an added security measure, Kuhlman, Brockman, Buenger and Husman residence halls are equipped with an intrusion/burglar alarm that is monitored 24 hours a day by the Xavier University Police. Anyone observed violating or abusing the alarms will be subject to severe disciplinary action and may be subject to prosecution under Ohio statutes.
Campus Buildings
Most University academic facilities are open from 7:00 a.m. until the latest evening classes let out. Administrative buildings are generally locked at 9:00 p.m. When the University is closed, all buildings are locked and may be opened only by authorized personnel.
Criminal Investigations
All crimes occurring on campus should be reported directly to Xavier University Police immediately. Xavier University Police will dispatch the appropriate number of officers to the scene and make any reports as necessary. If the matter warrants or requires further police intervention, the Cincinnati and/or Norwood Police Departments may be notified and called to the scene to assist with the Xavier University Police investigation.
Environmental Health &Safety (LINK)
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and operation of a University-wide environmental health and safety program that is consistent with University policy and procedure, and all appropriate federal, state and local regulatory requirements. The office's primary focus is compliance with regulations published by OSHA, EPA, and local fire and building codes. They also maintain a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database for all chemicals used on campus and, together with other departments, train the campus community on fire safety and conduct building fire drills.
The Ohio Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety routinely inspects the campus for environmental and safety concerns. Physical Plant maintains University buildings and grounds, and regularly inspects facilities and promptly makes repairs to ensure safety and security. Xavier University Police work with both units to respond to reports of potential safety and security hazards, such as broken windows and locks, and help maintain adequate exterior lighting and safe landscaping practices.
Emergency Preparedness (LINK)
Emergencies, crimes, injuries, accidents and severe weather can occur without warning at anytime. Xavier established the Office of Emergency Management and Business Continuity as part of its ongoing emergency preparedness efforts. This office oversees and coordinates the development, implementation and maintenance of the University's crisis/disaster and business continuity plans. In the event of an emergency or crisis, Xavier University Police and the Emergency Response Team will activate the campus emergency plans to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff and guests of the University.

All vehicles parked on University property are required to purchase and display a valid parking permit and are subject to Xavier University parking regulations. Learn more.

The Xavier campus is surrounded by three very different neighborhoods. Our neighbors in Norwood welcome many of our students in off-campus housing and retail stores and venues. Evanston is one of several transitional neighborhoods in the area, and many of our students volunteer in the recreation center after school hours and work with the neighborhood children. North Avondale is one of the oldest, grandest neighborhoods in Cincinnati and is where several faculty members own homes and many students rent, taking advantage of its close proximity to campus.
