Description from by-laws
- Be the official the Association representative to the Association,
University administration, faculty, staff, and to the larger student
community.
- Keep in contact with all Councils as may be authorized.
- At the beginning of his/her term, examine the Association mission and
goals and revise or change them as seen fit by the Executive.
- At the beginning of his/her term, consult with the advisor and SGA
Executive on long-range goals.
- Conduct the Association Executive and General meetings.
- Advise Councils in the course of their responsibilities. These duties may
be delegated to other qualified students as needed.
- Appoint any temporary committees or commissions to investigate issues,
propose courses of action, or execute policy that is deemed a concern of
residents as may be necessary.
- Manage/Oversee other the Association Executives and maintain communication
outside of meetings.
- Represent the Association as deemed necessary in any committee pertinent
to the resident community
- Be responsible for the unity of the Association and its members
- Appoint liaisons in conjunction with the Vice President
- Attend the CAACURH, NACURH, and Mini No Frills conferences.
Duties
Regular meetings
Call and facilitate weekly Executive meetings and bi-weekly General meetings.
Weekly one-on-one with the Director of Residence Life.
Executive operations
Facilitate transition with outgoing President through the following:
- Meet with outgoing President and appropriate Advisors to create transition
plan.
- Ensure that all financial transactions are completed and budget updated.
- Ensure that all keys are collected and returned to Residence Life
- Evaluate the year with Advisors, Representatives and the outgoing
Executive using either written survey or interactive discussion.
- Ensure preparations are made to attend NACURH Conference at the end of
May.
- Meet with incoming SGA President to discuss Association operations for the coming
year and relations with Student Senate and the SGA Executive.
Facilitate with Advisors the summer retreat.
- Prepare materials beforehand to help retreat run effectively and
efficiently. Mail to officers prior to retreat if necessary.
- Facilitate pre-determined sessions and activities in a manner that
encourages group problem solving and decision making.
Prepare to start the next year through:
- Switching long-distance codes attached to the primary Association budget
account to new Executive. Contact Technology Services, office of information
systems and services.
- Ensure office depot online account attached to appropriate Advisor.
- Create updated budget account authorization forms and attain appropriate
professional staff signatures for all Association budget accounts.
- Modify letter to residents, included in the assignment mailing, for
approval of the Executive.
- Collect ideas for advertising give-away item for approval of the
Executive. Once approved, order item.
- Modify cable TV listing and ad for approval of the Executive. Once
approved, give listing to Residence Life for printing on the primary
Association budget account.
Manage the Association's relationship with other organizations through:
- Appointing members to committees as needed.
Council operations
Maintain regular communication with Presidents. Assist in
addressing issues and problems individually faced.
Association Operations
Maintain a consistent, effective forum of expression for residents through:
- Facilitate the Association serving as the voice of the residents in
matters presented to the Association, Student Senate and SGA Executive.
- Identifying issues affecting the residents. Acquire and asses background
information, identify desired goal agree upon by the Executive or General
Body (whichever appropriate) and take steps necessary to achieve desired
goal.
- Maintain up to date background information, goals and status of issues
being addressed on the Association web site.
Submit approved budget to the SGA President for final approval:
- Review current year's budget.
- Facilitate the creation of proposal with the Executive. Expenses should be
categorized by the Association mission. Each expense line should indicate
type of expenses associated, reason for any requested increase and summary
of related expenses for current year.
- Facilitate review, changes and approval of proposal by the General Body.
Conferences
Attend the NACURH (May), CAACURH (November) and No-Frills (February)
conferences.
Attend all meetings for delegations prior to conference.
Committee
Be prepared to serve as a committee chair.
Call and facilitate all committee meetings.
Act as project manger to executive the charge of the committee. Review status
of associated tasks. Facilitate decision making by the committee.
Hold committee members accountable for responsibilities to the committee and
confront any associated issues.
