Duties

The main role of the advisor to any student group is that of a consultant and resource person.  The advisor may have more information and/or access to information and resources that would benefit the student group.  The advisor is also in the position to offer guidance in a number of areas such as: programming, resource allocation, budget, leadership, conflict management, motivation, marketing, campus politics, etc…

·        Advisor roles include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Provide knowledge of the general services of the campus and community and who to talk to.

·       Actively help the group plan, promote, carry-out and evaluate their programs and activities.

·        Advisors are responsible for ensuring the appropriate use of student funds.

·        The advisor should not run the meetings or the organization, but will be there to lend support and direction when needed.

·        Advisors will be willing to help active members begin the year and will continue this guidance and support throughout the year. Advisors will aid in these tasks to the best of their ability.

·        Provide consulting in activities necessary to each individual's job.

·        Advisors will be willing to give opinions and direct students to the proper University officials or further discussion as needed.

·        Advisors will provide a balance of professionalism between the group and the University and will aid in the group's growth and development.

·        The advisor will assess the developmental leadership needs of the officers and members of the group.  The advisor will encourage and stimulate the development of leadership, self-responsibility, and interpersonal skills.  The advisor will plan and implement, in tandem with the executive board, a leadership development plan for the members.
