Resident Student Association
President's Report to Senate - November 26, 2001
1)
Issues
Currently handling these
issues:
- Technology.
ISS is working with Cincinnati Bell on a deal to increase Internet bandwidth
for the 2nd semester. Gordon Suggs, director of Technology
Services in ISS, will be presenting at our November 28th General
Meeting. I invite all of you to attend at 7:00 pm in Albers 103. (Note:
Albers 103 is a temporary location for this meeting)
- Honor’s
Housing. Ava Jean Fiebig and I met with the Honor’s Council on November 14
to discuss housing for next year. The Honor’s Program will retain the 2nd
and 3rd floor of Buenger. Freshman and sophomore suites will be
mixed together on both floors, divided by male and female wings. Also,
freshmen requesting honor’s housing will be required to have random
roommates. Both of these decisions are intended to increase the
intermingling among classes and give the freshman the best experience
possible within the program.
- Safety
of people crossing Dana Ave (Village residents). RSA is working Gene Beapuré
and the City of Cincinnati on increasing the safety of residents.
- Making
laundry machines free by adding laundry fee. Beverly Bobbitt, Assistant
Director of Residence Life, is working to write up a proposal based on
experiences from other schools. Any decisions during this academic year
would be reflected in the 2003-2004 academic year.
2)
Programming
We will be holding Christmas
Bingo at 9:30 in the O’Connor Sports Center. We are working in conjunction
with the Gospel Choir on some co-advertising and possibility of having an
additional drop-off at the sports center by their buses.
3)
Recognition
We have started our Of The
Month program for recognizing contributions to those living in
university-operated housing. More details on our web site under “Recognizing
Contributions”
4)
Leadership & Community Building
We are currently working on
appointing our apartments & houses council, which was not filled during
elections.
5)
National Affiliation
A delegation traveled to Rutgers University to attend our
regional CAACURH conference two weekends ago. This was an outstanding experience
– we learned a lot, got Xavier’s name out there, and had fun. The delegation
will be presenting what we learned during one of the remaining General Meetings
of the semester.
Also, as part of on-going
budget reworking, the RSA Executive will be proposing to our General Body that
costs for conferences come only from fundraising and rollover funds. The SGA
Allocation each year would be budgeted for programming and other operating
expenses.
