President's Report to Senate - September 10, 2001

1)      Cable System

Report from Beverly Bobbitt, Assistant Director for Residence Life

There are two apartments in the Commons that have a wiring problem that is affecting their ability to receive DirecTV. The company that wired the building is working on the problem. ESPN Classic has lost its signal twice including this past weekend and Lifetime lost its signal for a couple of days, but is back with no further problems. The biggest problem we're having is residents don't know how to program their televisions to receive the maximum number of channels. We have walked a number of them through the process.

2)      The Commons

Peepholes have already been ordered within the past two weeks and will be installed as soon as possible. Some minor issues still remain in the building, but overall Residence Life is pleased that there are no additional major problems to be addressed at this time.

3)      Buenger Hall & Honor’s Program

In response to resident concerns last year, a full kitchen has been installed in the 4th floor lounge for use by all Buenger Hall residents.

The basement common spaces except for the laundry, music room, and bathrooms in addition to the first floor conference room and second floor chapel (which is officially a multi-purpose room) remain under the control of the Honor’s Program.

Reservations of the first floor conference room or the second floor chapel can be made through Darleen Frickman.

4)      Representative Elections

The process of electing representatives to serve on community councils is underway. There were information sessions for each community the first week of classes. The final information session for anyone interested is Wednesday, September 12, at 9:30 pm in Lindner 101.

Campaigning will occur from Wednesday, September 12, through Wednesday, September 19, when elections will occur in each community. Representative training will be Saturday, September 22. Community and General meetings will begin the following week.

5)      Meeting Location

General meetings will be bi-weekly on Wednesdays 7:00 pm in the Buenger Chapel. The specific dates will be determined and put on the web site by the Training Day.

Each community decides when to hold their weekly meetings.
