Cable System Update

Background
Interest was raised to review the cable system channel line-up to see if changes could be made.

Goal
Update the cable line up to better reflect the interests of current students who will be residents during 2001-2002.

Current Status
The new system is online with a total of 64 channels on the system.

History

August 15, 2001 The final channel list has been submitted for installation on August 23.
July 31, 2001 The contract with DirecTV has been signed and is on its way to Purchasing. Details on the channel line-up will be posted as soon as available.
July 23, 2001 Residence Life and Physical Plant are waiting for the contract to be signed by the Vice President for Student Development. Details on the final deal will be posted when it occurs.
July 20, 2001 New Assistant Director for Residence Life, Beverly Bobbitt, is working directly with DirecTV to generate the final agreement for the new cable. Once approved, DirecTV requires only two weeks lead time for installation.
July 3, 2001 Residence Life is meeting with Physical Plant today to discuss the timeline to implement the cable by fall move-in.
May 15, 2001
Cable Company Representative sent updated pricing on equipment upgrades and channel costs for switching to DirecTV using the channel line-up  provided.
April 2001
RSA, Residence Life, and Physical Plant work with the University's Cable Company on options for changing the cable system. ITC proposes switching to DirecTV.  RSA receives pricing options for DirecTV and submits a proposal based on survey results
March 2001
RSA Conducts a survey during the Freshman Housing Lottery which includes questions regarding keeping and tossing current channels, and what channels 2001-2002 residents would like to see added.

November 2000
RSA Conducts a survey during the Upperclass Housing Lottery which includes questions regarding keeping and tossing current channels, and what channels 2001-2002 residents would like to see added.
