Compatibility Requirements for Xavier's Resnet
2006-2007 Academic Year

Whether you plan to purchase a new system, or already have one, if you want to use the Xavier network and receive support from the Xavier's Help Desk, you must have Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Home, Media, or Professional Edition) or MacOS X

Other operating systems will work on the network, but are not supported.  For other operating systems, we can only guarantee the network jack is functioning properly.

Your system must meet the minimum processor and memory requirements for the operating system installed on it and it must have an Ethernet Network Card (10/100BaseTX or 10/100/1000) .

We recommend that your system have an Ethernet card already installed. Most new systems come with this already. If you need to purchase a card, or you are buying a system with a card pre-installed, we recommend 3Com and Intel cards (with plug-and-play capability if possible) for Windows XP Professional systems. For Macintosh PCs, we recommend you choose a card that Apple approves.  Most all Macintosh systems that meet the minimum hardware requirements should have Ethernet cards built-in already. These recommendations are primarily based on past experience, since we may not be able to assist you with all brands of Ethernet cards.

Once the hardware and it's corresponding software drivers are installed, then you are close to getting connected to the network.  Please refer to the operating system specific instructions in Connecting to Xavier's ResNet documentation to complete the driver setup if the card was added.
