Residence Life
Frequently Asked Questions
- What size sheets should I bring?
- The purchase of extra long sheets is strongly recommended. The extra long fitted sheets with elastic around them will also work on the shorter mattresses.
- Can I have some of the furniture in the room moved to allow more space?
- Unfortunately, no. All furniture must remain in the room for the entire academic year.
- May I bring extention cords to allow for extra outlets?
- Extention cords and multi-plug outles are a fire hazzard. Power strips with a surge protector should be used if extra electrical outlets are needed.
- Do I need to provide my own lamps?
- Yes. Desk lamps are strongly recommended. In the apartments, you should also bring lamps for the living room.
- Are trash cans provided?
- Yes. Each unit has one trash and one recycling can.
- Can I loft my bed?
- Due to safety reasons, beds may not be lofted. However, beds may be bunked or unbunked. Pegs are available from your RA if your beds are not currently bunked but you wish to do so.
- Does Xavier provide wireless internet service?
- Yes. In order to pick up Xavier's wireless internet signal, you need to obtain a code number from the Information Resources Office.
- Can I use a land-line telephone?
- Yes. If you need a land-line connection, please fill out our Student Dorm Telephone Request Form online to place your request. Provide your name, building and room number, and current e-mail address. Once the line is set up (usually within 1 business week), you will be notified of your telephone number by e-mail. Please note that only local telephone service is provided. Also be aware that although you are being assigned a landline telephone number through Xavier University, this number will NOT be available to any staff/faculty at the university except for the Office of Residence Life.
