Grades -- Frequently Asked Questions

Can I find out my grades on-line? Yes. For grades from Summer 2005 to present, access MyXU. For grades from Spring 2005 and earlier, access Student Online Services here.

How do I figure out my grade point average? Grade point average (GPA) is a calculation of the total quality points earned divided by the total quality hours. Quality hours are the number of hours earned in courses taken for credit, and by multiplying these by the following point values, quality points can be calculated. An "A" is worth 4 quality points per credit hour, a "B" is 3 points per credit hour, a "C" is 2 points per credit hour, and a "D" is 1 point per credit hour. All other marks indicate no quality points earned. For example, if a "B" is earned in a 3 credit hour course, the person has earned 9 quality points. If a "C" is earned in a different 3 credit hour course, the person has earned 6 quality points. By adding these quality points and dividing the total by the total quality hours, 6, the student's GPA is calculated to be 2.500.
What is a "VF"? A "VF" is a Vanishing Failure, and is given to those students who fail to drop a course through the Office of the Registrar, but stop attending the course. This mark is equivalent to 0 quality points for the course, and will be factored into the student's grade point average.
