Starting a New Club Sport

Clubs and organizations form the basis of co-curricular life at Xavier and are an important element to educating the total person. Although we have 28 active Club Sports, we many not have the special one for which you are looking. So, outlined here is the process by which you can start your own Club Sport that is recognized by the Recreational Sports Department and the Student Government Association.

The Xavier University Club Sports Program operates in accordance with all Federal laws and regulations requiring non-discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, ethnic group, national origin, sexual orientation or handicap.  Membership in all XU Club Sports programs must be open to all currently enrolled students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty and staff, pending any league rules stating otherwise.

1) Complete the New Club Sport Application Form (pdf). (click here for word document)

2) Write Club By-Laws

Here is a guide to assist you in writing your by-laws. Please follow the directions and make a hard copy of the by-laws as well as a disk containing them.

Finally, you need to return the completed form and by-laws to the Assistant Director, Patty Williams.  It is requested that you e-mail the documents to clubsports@xavier.edu.  If not, return the documents to the Club Sport office located in the O'Connor Sports Center.

After the documents are reviewed by the Club Sports Council, you will be  contacted to discuss any suggestions concerning your by-laws and Club and/or notified that the Club has been approved for recognition as a Club Sport.

3) Receiving Funding

You must fulfill the "active member" requirements and complete and submit the appropriate documents required for registration before the Club can be considered for funding.  This information can be found in the Club Sport Handbook. The appropriate forms and the Club Sport Handbook are available on the Club Sports homepage.

Once all of this is completed, the Club will be eligible to receive funding.  A budget proposal must be submitted and a meeting will be set up with representation from the Club and the Club Sports Council to discuss the proposal and answer any questions. A decision will then be made on the amount of  funding the Club shall receive.

If you have further questions, contact Patty Williams at 745-2856.
