Dodge for a Cure
05/05/05The basketball court in Schmidt Fieldhouse was transformed into a dodgeball arena on Friday, April 22, at 7:00 p.m. to raise money for the YWCA Breast and Cervical Health Network of Greater Cincinnati.
The event, called “Dodge for a Cure,” pitted teams against one another in a round robin format, so each team plays against all the others. Five players per team with two dodgeballs between them competed on a half-court playing field while another game proceeded with two different teams on the other half. The four teams with the best records advanced to the playoffs.
Play was extended to full court for the championship match, in which the winning team received a cash prize.
“[We] wanted to do something that would raise breast cancer awareness in the Xavier and Cincinnati communities, and we thought that this would be a fun way to do so,” says Erica Lennon, one of the event's coordinators and a doctoral student in the department of psychology. She co-founded this event with fellow student Eric Sprankle.
The tournament was open to the public and included a chance to win prizes from Skyline, McDonalds, the Xavier bookstore, Biagio’s Bistro, Know Theater, Shake-It Records and Everyday Records.
The tournament was sponsored by the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students. For more information please contact email@example.com or call 513 228-0891.
