Student Teaching

Student teaching is part of the experience provided in the professional semester and may be done in either the fall or spring semester of the final year. All preparatory course work and field experiences must be complete prior to the student teaching semester.
The student is advised that three steps should be accomplished during the semester prior to the student teaching semester.

  1. Make application according to the procedures below;
  2. Take the required teacher licensure tests;
  3. Complete the BCII criminal background check if you have been a resident of Ohio for at least five years. Complete the FBI criminal background check if you are not an Ohio resident or have been a Ohio resident for less than five years.

A student desiring to student teach during the fall semester of the year must apply no later than Feb. 1 of the previous spring semester. A student desiring to student teach during the spring semester must apply no later than Sept. 15 of the previous fall semester. Application forms are available in the department of education office.
