School Assignment
The process of assigning each candidate to the best school setting and cooperative teacher is difficult and time-consuming. Therefore, no exceptions to these deadlines will be made. Every effort will be made to place the student teacher during the requested semester. However, placement cannot be guaranteed during that semester.
At the time the request for student teaching is made, the student must possess a minimum 2.70 cumulative GPA, a minimum 2.70 GPA in his/her teaching field and a minimum 2.70 GPA in the professional education sequence. A tentative school site is mutually agreed upon and the student is required to visit the school, meet the prospective cooperating teacher, and mutually agree to work together before a contract for student teaching is finalized. Student teaching contracts must be signed and returned to the director of secondary education by Dec. 1 for a spring placement and June 1 for a fall placement. If circumstances require a student to break a signed contract, a new application to student teach must be completed. Individual school districts and/or schools may have additional requirements for placement which will be respected by the University and followed by the candidate.
